The event should have been billed Dr. Jay music vs Uncle Mike mango chow...A journey to determine which one hotter......... Too close to call!
CROWD:
Island Mix has a moderately sized dance floor and as a result, by definition, the term "packed" would be relative. On this evening however there was still room on the dance floor. This should by no means be an indicator as to the success of the event or the level of enjoyment by those present.
VENUE/ACCESSIBILITY:
ISLAMD MIX is an awesome restaurant and lounge located at 1050 Brock Road Pickering. Noted for its caribbean cuisine the steady stream of patrons is testament to the quality of the food and service of its staff.
VIBES:
As with any Dr. Jay event you can be assured that the night would be filled with the sweet sounds of caribbean music done as ONLY Dr. Jay could do it.....HOT and CONSISTENTLY. The event kicked off into high gear at approximately 1:00am the following morning and despite having a less than capacity crowd those present witnessed what is to be expected in the days and weeks leading up to the EVENT FORMERLY KNOWN AS CARIBANA..... (oops we can't say dat again). I cannot wait.
FOOD & DRINKS:
The food at Island Mix is first class matched only by it's well stocked bar and courteous staff.
SERVICE:
No complaints... bar was flowing, several sets of toilets... no huge lines anywhere... good stuff!
I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate DJ BLEND'SZ who has, for some time been waiting to get into the game. On Saturday May 21st 2011, under the watchful eye of Dr. Jay when given a turn at bat, stepped up comfortably to the plate, and KNOCKED IT OUT THE PARK. I had the pleasure of interviewing this young DJ outside Island Mix prior to the start of the event and concluded the he is a level headed, ambitious and hard working individual.from whom we can expect great things in the not too distant future....Great set BLEND'SZ.
