Mr. Vegas Scores an International Hit with an ode to his Birthplace
Mr. Vegas - Sweet Jamaica ft. Shaggy & Josey Wales
New York, NY- Monday, May 23, 2011 (RAINE PR): From Africa to Europe, Reggae fans are in love with "Sweet Jamaica," the roots rockin' ode to the land of wood and water from its native son, Mr. Vegas. "Sweet Jamaica," which also features veteran Dancehall toaster 'The Colonel' Josey Wales, and platinum-selling superstar Shaggy, is currently the top-selling Reggae single in Germany, and #1 on the United Kingdom Reggae Charts. Earlier this year "Sweet Jamaica" was #1 on MTV BASE's Dancehall video charts in Africa - his empowering anthem "Black and Proud" currently holds the #1 spot.
"Sweet Jamaica" was written by Bajan singer Indra Rudder last year when Jamaica's political upheaval garnered international attention. Rudder's lyrical praise of the island's exotic flavors, exquisite beauty, and groovy sounds, coupled with director Jay Will's vivid images of Jamaica's magical landscape, and Mr. Vegas's lively delivery is now bringing worldwide attention to the brilliance of Jamaica and Jamaican culture. "Sweet Jamaica" also contains lyrics from the 1984 classic jam "Nah Lef Yah" in which Josey Wales proudly proclaims "sweet sweet Jamaica, mi nah lef ya!"
"Jamaica is one of the most popular islands in the Caribbean, because it has so much to offer," says Clifford 'Mr. Vegas' Smith. "People from all over travel to Jamaica for the food, the beaches, the scenery, and especially for Reggae music. I am happy and proud to be Jamaican and to be able to spread Jamaican music and culture all over the world."
"Sweet Jamaica" is one of the many international hit singles that Mr. Vegas has scored over the past 15 years. "Heads High," "Hot Gyal Today," featuring Sean Paul, "Pull Up," "Tek Weh Yuhself," "Hot Wuk," and "I Am Blessed," are among his catalogue of singles that have hit charts around the world. His 2009 hit "Gallis" is still #1 on the Global Reggae Top 40 video charts. The MOBO award winning Dancehall 'singjay' was nominated for Best Reggae Artist at the 2010 Soul Train Awards.
