After a week of scorching hot temperatures here in NY, we awoke Saturday to misty rain and 69 degrees. But we soon received an email from Shorblu assuring us that rain wasn’t going to stop the event, so we made our way to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for the second annual BluVino Wine & Music Festival. It did not disappoint! The museum is easily accessible by car and public transportation, and I did not hear anyone complaining about finding parking so all seemed well on that front. The event apparently got off to a late start but I did not notice the hiccup- when I arrived, music was playing, wine was flowing and the crowd was in full swing.

I received my free BluVino glass at the entranceAfter a week of scorching hot temperatures here in NY, we awoke Saturday to misty rain and 69 degrees. But we soon received an email from Shorblu assuring us that rain wasn’t going to stop the event, so we made our way to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for the second annual and I made my way upstairs to the roof. The rooftop of the Children’s museum had been transformed to a mini wine oasis, decorated with blue and white fabric, along with white tents. There were decorative wine barrels to rest your drinks on. And grapes everywhere- resting on the wine barrels, hanging from the fabric walls. The decorations were subtle and tasteful.

The crowd seemed much larger than last year and this was definitely a dress to impress event. The ladies came out in their cutest dresses and pant ensembles and took their shoe game very seriously. The men came cleaned up nicely and dressed to the nines. A very attractive well-dressed crowd with a lot of new faces I had never seen before.

There was a woman walking around with samples of wine to serve the patrons. The bottles were very affordable, so much so that the bar ran out of white wine (my Caribbean people! SMH.) Not to worry, Shorblu was on top of it, and not even 30 minutes passed before the bar was well stocked again and ready to go. The complimentary food was also a delicious addition this year…from the cheeses to the wonderful shrimp cocktail and tasty wings.

Infamous Sounds started the evening off with some nice groovy sounds. Then out of nowhere in rolled a subwoofer and the bass started pounding the rooftop- the party now start! A reggae beat dropped and DJ Commish elevated the vibe. The social crowd was still trying to hold on though, giving a stush little wine. As darkness began to fall and the wine kept flowing, DJ Back to Basics took over the mic and pumped up the crowd. Everyone there seemed to “feel like they just won a million dollars!” There was definitely some bacchanal going on in the place. People well enjoyed themselves and took advantage of the dark corners to engage in some serious body to body contact.

There were also a few vendors quietly holding down the fort…most including the St Lucia tourist board (www.stlucianow.com) and Aoede’s Hands (www.facebook.com/aoedeshands) who was selling some beautiful African fabric fashion accessories.

I must commend Shorblu: with the reduced price tag from last year ($25 online tickets), the affordable and delicious wines on offer, the tasty food and going over for several hours it was a wonderful experience. Everyone that I spoke to similarly enjoyed themselves. We definitely appreciate you bringing the Shorblu vibe into Brooklyn. TJJ thanks you for having us and we look forward to the now annual tradition of the BluVino Wine & Music Festival!
