Leading Entertainers, Artists And Fashion Icons Unite To Raise Money For The Shashamane Education Fund

August 16, 2011 - Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago... On Sunday August 21, 2011, the Trinidad and Tobago arm of the charitable organisation, Shashamane Sunrise, will shine a light on the creativity of Trinidad and Tobago at the second annual Shashamane T&T Benefit and Auction. Fashion will take centre stage at the Hyatt Regency Hotel as Trinidad and Tobago's premier fashion designers and foremost orators join forces with a vision to raise funds for the Shashamane Education Fund.

The fashion show will offer patrons an evening of chic elegance with showings by Claudia Pegus, Heather Jones, Meiling, Robert Young and Zadd & Eastman. Muhammad Muwakil, a rising member of the spoken word fraternity, will join Rapso artiste and veteran of the oratory, Brother Resistance, to raise awareness through poetry. Gramps and Peter Morgan, members of Jamaica's leading reggae family, will delight the audience with a guest performance of their hits new and old.

Shashamane Sunrise is a New York-based international non-profit organisation founded in 2005 to support children's education in developing nations by creating healthy learning environments and access to resources and mentorship. With this goal, the benefit concludes the 2011 Shashamane Brighter Days Activities Camp, which launched Monday August 15, 2011, and continues until Friday August 19, 2011. The camp offers activities and workshops to children from rural and disadvantaged communities and primary schools across Trinidad. For this initiative, Shashamane Sunrise T&T has partnered with the Calabash Consortium, the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), NIHERST and the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) to expose camp goers to an array of professions via career workshops hosted by some of Trinidad and Tobago's leading professionals in the fields of the arts, science and sports including Che Lovelace, Christopher Nathan, Claudia Pegus, Devonish Paul, Imran Jan, James O'Connor, Larry Gomes, Mervyn Dillon, Sonja Dumas and Tony Gray.

Shashamane Sunrise has chosen Trinidad and Tobago as one of its most recent posts of establishment, joining Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Jamaica and Uganda. Since its launch a year ago, Shashamane Sunrise T&T has donated equipment and supplies and executed capital development projects through the Shash Education Fund in Carapo, Fishing Pond, Salybia and Talparo Primary Schools and Roxborough Secondary School.

Shashamane Sunrise T&T invites the Trinidad and Tobago community to join in supporting children's education by participating in the 2011 Shash T&T Benefit and Auction. This year's silent auction includes original artwork by master painter, LeRoy Clarke; surfing lessons from professional surfer, Che Lovelace; and an iPad 2. In its commitment to support Caribbean culture and enterprise, the organisation is encouraging guests to outfit themselves in semi-formal and casually chic creations by local designers.
