J’ouvert Jamishness (JJ), NYC’s first paint fete, brought to you by Ago Solvo had been advertised for months with JJ representatives in tee shirts in almost every fete throughout Brooklyn.  Then two weeks before the debut event, there was the video which streamed on facebook and the madness ensued.  J’ouvert Jamishness was in the mindset of most as the anticipation began to build.

With hurricane Irene looming just hours away we thought, well if we are going to be stuck indoors for the rest of the weekend because of a State of Emergency, we might as well go out with a bang and with that, we were headed out at the crack of dawn to J’ouvert Jamishness.

You were immediately immersed with white sheets that were strewn throughout the entrance adding an element of surprise as you entered the T shaped yard.  Beyond the sheets were drums full of colored solutions ranging in all colors of the rainbow and JJ girls ready to wet you down as you entered.  The yard was full of people who were covered in all the colors of the rainbow as the JJ girls were hard at work making sure patrons were saturated in color.

The vibe was definitely right in this one and from the moment you entered you felt it.  Everyone was out to have a good time and clearly were enjoying themselves.  The dj’s did a phenomenal job of gauging the crowd and making sure their selections would only enhance the vibe of the party.  Job well done Sounds 4 Life, Freeks 4 Soca, Spoiled Bratz, SLI and Natural Freaks.

The rain added an element that can only be described as EPIC.  It seemed the moment the rain started to fall, the more uninhibited everyone became.  From fists pumping, people jumping, men stripping off their tops, it is as if the rain gave an intoxicating effect that had everyone in a frenzy.   Although, there were a few people that might’ve missed the memo and didn’t realize they were in a j’ouvert fete and didn’t want anything poured, or sprayed on them.  Ago I think next year you need to have a VIP section for people who want to remain clean, even though I’m not sure how that would turn out but anything is possible.

A nice touch to the party was the surprise performance by General Grant who did all of his classics tunes that had the crowd wanting more.  Before we knew it the fete was over and we were heading home covered in head to toe in every color of the rainbow but we didn’t care; we had a time.  So we stopped by DJ Bird’s food station that was setup in the basement grabbed some corn soup, bake and shark, and headed home reminiscing of the morning we just had.

Ago Solvo, TJJ had a ball, thanks for having us and we look forward to your sophomore event.
