The world’s fourth largest brewer, Carlsberg Breweries A/S, announced Tuesday that the company has appointed NWT Enterprises Ltd. as its sole distributor in Trinidad and Tobago and its surrounding markets. Leading the product portfolio will be the world famous Carlsberg brand.

J.C. Jacobsen, Carlsberg's founder, did it all 180 years ago in Copenhagen, Denmark. In his thirst for perfection, Jacobsen established the Carlsberg Laboratory in 1876 which a few years later, developed a method for producing the first clean yeast, which revolutionized beer production on a global scale. The Carlsberg brand of beer is now sold in over 140 markets worldwide. Carlsberg is the undisputed market leader in Northern and Western Europe. The Group is focused on expansion in growth and emerging markets like those of Eastern Europe and Asia, and has a growing presence in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Caribbean Region is viewed as a “window to the world” – emerging markets with local populations as well as millions of international tourists visiting from North America and Europe. While the Carlsberg brand has been previously launched and locally brewed in the Trinidad & Tobago market, the appointment of NWT Enterprises Ltd. represents a re-entry into the market together with a new brand proposition and makeover.

The new positioning of the Carlsberg brand worldwide celebrates Carlsberg's heritage and values, while connecting with today's active, adventurous generation of beer drinkers. The proposition encourages consumers 'to step up and do the right thing', rewarding themselves with a Carlsberg for their deeds, and carries the tagline "That calls for a Carlsberg". Carlsberg is always looking to improve the quality of its beer. As part of this, a new strain of barley, Null-LOX barley, has been developed and is being rolled out across the markets. “Your fresh Carlsberg just got fresher,” says Khalil Younes, Senior Vice President of Global, Sales, Marketing and Innovation.

In addition, the new signature 330ml bottle carrying the modernized visual identity is now imported from Europe. Consumers in Trinidad who have tried the product have made the overall general comment that “Carlsberg looks, feels and tastes so much better than when it was locally brewed here two years ago.”

To support this re-launch, a new set of creative communications has been produced, ranging from television advertising, print and digital media through to point of sales materials and will soon be visible in the market.
