D vibes cyar done! That was the mentality in ISLANDpeople Mas come Carnival Tuesday 2012. From the time the band assembled, it was evident that IP Masqueraders know how to have fun and they spent their money to do just that. As usual everryyyybody reach late but I guess that’s expected when yuh want people to reach d band at 6:30am after wining low and pumpin’ flag for the whole Carnival Monday in d hot sun.

Most masqueraders met the band at the top of Abercromby Street... maybe that’s because we were stuck there for about 3 hours, but they did not care once d drinks were flowing and d music was blasting. The sun was hot and d place was humid as hell, but the vibes were just right.

After about 5 or 6 hours it was time to hit the big stage and one thing was sure: Island People Mas was ready! As usual with IPMas, what took the stage experience through the roof was having Mr. Fete himself, Machel Montano performing live on the big truck (he played in the band too so that was cool).

From the time the line of security at the top of the stage opened... it was madness.  Even though IP was clearly pushing for "Pump Yuh Flag" to win Road March, several crews decided to drop on the ground and roll.... Some rolled so much that a few girls even ended up rolling outta dey costume *blocks face*... lol.

After the stage, the band took a cool trek around the Savannah to the Oval for lunch. IP we must say on behalf of the masqueraders: lunch sucked... lol! From people’s comments it’s apparent that cold food doesn’t taste very good but too bad IP didn’t know this from beforehand. Gladly to say, this didn’t affect the vibes as most people actually preferred to just stay outside the Oval and wine on the pavement.

Next stop was St. James (don’t know how we ended up there but say what.... d vibes cyar done right :-). No one expected to have a mini-concert through the streets but I guess with IPMas anything is possible eh. So by the end of St. James they had live performances by Machel, Swappi, Terri Lyons, Cassi and a few other people (can’t remember everybody nah... sry ;-). By this time the jamishness was a bit much because of d crowd around the Blue dj truck (Bip up to Trevlyn and crew), it was insane.

Eventually the rest of band passed this truck and left d crowd to do their thing as we headed down the Foreshore back to the Stadium. Last lap wasn’t as hyped as pervious years but people still had a good time cause I mean after all….d money done spend eh. Imagine the security wining just as much as the masqueraders but carnival almost done right... so anything goes. Lol

We got back to the stadium after 8 or 9pm (without the blue truck), and about 20 minutes later coming around the bend was Trevlyn and his blue truck posse. For sure that’s where all the action was. If yuh see people.... and d vibes were through the roof by this time. To end it all, IP had an after-party unlike any other.... It was on the HIGHWAY!

Security lined the roadway and masqueraders could have danced in on d median, front d truck, behind d truck, or even under d truck…just not in d road. People didn’t mind because by this time everybody was brain washed with d sounds of Machel’s special Pump Yuh Flag road mix for IP which started with “Island People Start the Music” (they played this about 1 million times exact by the end of the night).

All in all, people had a good time with IPMas in 2012. The drinks were good, the food was horrible, security was acceptable but vibes were Epic! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2013 (once we’re all alive..lol).

Yuh boi,
Zloc
