The Tobago Jazz Experience heads north for 2012 and the village of Castara has the honour of hosting the inaugural Northside Jazz event at Castara Beach on Thursday, April 26 from 1 p.m.

The Division of Tourism and Transportation, Tobago House of Assembly, has been working closely with the Castara Village Council to coordinate an event that capitalizes on the village’s unique charm and offers visitors an all-encompassing, authentic Tobago experience that is truly much more than music.

The positive vibes of Prophet Benjamin and Marlon Asher will envelop this quaint coastal community, calling patrons to indulge in a reggae-inspired affair that promises to stimulate all the senses.

Entry to Northside Jazz is free but the Village Council will infuse its local flavour into the Tobago Jazz Experience by offering an activity package for those interested in truly immersing themselves in everything Castara is known for. For the modest price of $60, patrons can enjoy a brief tour to the majestic Castara Waterfalls, indulge in delicious indigenous treats, help fishermen pull in a haul during the traditional seine hanging and feast on a scrumptious broth prepared by the villagers themselves.

Local caterers will be preparing all the food on sale, while colorful crafts can be purchased as mementos. The iconic dirt oven will be in operation for persons to get a taste of bread fresh off the fire and many of the supporting acts gracing the stage will be born and bred Castarians including, Tall Man, Kwame McClean, Simon Phillip and Keishon Jack.

With unassuming retreats dotting the hillsides of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, offering vacationers magnificent panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, Castara is the place where nature meets tradition to create the bona fide, island experience that
Tobago’s jazz festival has become synonymous with.

It is therefore with pleasure that the Division of Tourism and Transportation and the village of Castara invite the world to an evening of soothing reggae music, mouthwatering local cuisine and just the right amount of rural charm to make the first ever Northside Jazz an event to remember.
