Wednesday March 29, 2012 - Anya Ayoung-Chee, winner of Project Runway Season 9, former Miss Trinidad and Tobago and one of the hottest young fashion designers to emerge from the Caribbean in recent years is coming to Toronto Easter Sunday. Anya is carded to host an upscale social event called AMBIANCE at Six Degrees Nightclub – 2335 Yonge St. (Yonge & Eglinton) along with world renown soca DJs/Radio Personalities – D’ENFORCAS (Heavy Hitters DJs) from 100.7 CHIN FM & DR. JAY (de Soca Prince) from G 98.7.

Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Anya launched her women’s label, PILAR, in May 2009 and it has been making waves ever since. In June 2010, she launched a lingerie line named Anya de Rouge, the first of its kind in the Caribbean.

Project Runway, a reality show hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, pits designers against each other as they compete under tight deadlines to create styles. In 2011, underdog Ayoung-Chee stole the show right from the auditions, confessing to an aghast panel of judges that she couldn’t sew, having spent only four months learning as fashion student at the University of Trinidad & Tobago. That lack of skill certainly made for good TV and nail-biting moments, and challenged Ayoung-Chee to up her game against more technically skilled designers.

Over the 14 episodes that ran from July to the finale on October 27, Ayoung-Chee found herself facing elimination – but in the end, with her distinct Caribbean aesthetic and her eye for prints, she triumphed over the other 20 contestants and walked away with the US$100,000 first prize.

On Sunday April 8th World Class Event Ambiance will showcase this great talent from the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, who was recently featured at the International Soca Monarch, on the cover of the 20 year Anniversary edition of Caribbean Beat Magazine and who is currently emerging at the socialite of the Caribbean.
