She’s sold out tours, produced a platinum album and bumped popular singer-songwriter, Adele, out of the number one spot on the UK chart.

She is 23-year-old Scottish singer, Emeli Sandé, and in less than a year her name has grown from a mere whisper within the music industry to a definitive and well-endorsed roar.

Having released her first single, ‘Heaven’, in 2011, the soulful performer has accomplished a great deal in a few short months.

In December 2011 it was announced that she had copped the Critic’s Choice BRIT Award. This, after her duet ‘Read All About It’ with rapper, Professor Green, shot to number one a week after its release in October. She also supported Coldplay in concert, receiving a very significant nod of approval from the iconic alternative rock band.

Her momentum hasn’t slowed down in 2012 with her debut album ‘Our Version Of Events’ skyrocketing to the top of the charts to replace ‘21’ by Adele. This coup denied Adele one more week which would have seen her overtake David Bowie for the number of career weeks spent at number one. That being said, it’s no surprise that her nine city UK tour was sold out weeks in advance.

As the tour kicks off on April 4, the young artiste is warming up for her Caribbean debut at the Tobago Jazz Experience 2012. On April 27, Sandé’s powerful voice, moving lyrics and edgy act will take the stage at World Music Night, Pigeon Point Heritage Park, to show Tobago, Trinidad, the Caribbean and the world exactly what all the fuss is about. Alongside Grammy Award winner Janelle Monáe, reggae crooner, Barrington Levy, and soca acts Kes the Band and Dil-E-Nadan, she will engage patrons with an entrancing performance that promises to leave a lasting impression.

The Tobago Jazz Experience 2012 will take place from April 21 to 29 at various venues throughout the island, guiding visitors on a musical, gastronomical, historical and cultural excursion that is truly much more than music. You don’t want to miss it!
