The Division of Tourism and Transportation of the Tobago House of Assembly launched the 2012 Got to Go Tobago Road Show with an intimate Industry and Media Reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday 10 May, 2012.

Stakeholders and members of the media alike were the first to view the new Destination Tobago video, which highlights the island’s finest attributes, from the three S’s of sea, sun and sand to the charming heritage acts of vintage Tobago to the delicious food that has given rise to two of the island’s biggest events – Culinary Festival and Blue Food.

Marketing Manager, Avion Hercules, shared an overview of the Division’s marketing strategy for the destination, including the very successful Tobago Go Go Go programme that continues to attract a considerable amount of European visitors to the island.

Administrator of the Division, Ritchie Toppin, addressed the audience on behalf of Assemblyman Oswald Williams, Secretary of Tourism and Transportation, who was unable to attend. The Secretary expressed his excitement about what he described as a “dynamic, collaborative venture…that brings Tobago to Trinidad via an interactive platform that will allow Trinidadians to experience the music, the culture, the spice and the warmth of our unique island while enabling all relevant parties to reap the necessary economic benefits related to the sector.”

With so many key players within the industry present, Secretary Williams encouraged attendees to take advantage of such a rare meeting of the minds. “It is imperative that we take this opportunity to not only meet and greet, but form strategic alliances and begin meaningful discussions on the way forward for the industry,” he said.

Among the participants in the Road Show are key industry stakeholders such as the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association (THTA), the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI), BagoSports, Gulf City Mall, Tour Operators Association and the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, who will be spreading the word about their organizations at the various venues.

Friday’s Road Show schedule includes Trincity Mall, from 11 am to 6 pm; the Brian Lara Promenade from 12 noon and Tobago Night at Shaker’s on The Avenue from 8 pm to 11 pm. Tobago Night promises to bring a true Tobago vibe to The Ave as it will feature signature drinks like the Nylon Pool, Argyle Waterfall and Sunday School, limbo dancing, giveaways and a grand prize of a trip for two to Tobago!

On Saturay, the show heads down south to Gulf City Mall from 11 am to 6 pm and then returns north from 4 pm to 7 pm at MovieTowne, Invaders Bay.
