The Division of Tourism and Transportation of the Tobago House of Assembly brought Tobago to Trinidad for two days of activities that toured the island from north to south and east to west.

The 2012 edition of the ‘Got to Go Tobago’ Road Show was launched with an intimate Industry and Media Reception at the Crowne Plaza on Thursday 10 May, 2012. Stakeholders and members of the media alike convened at the Calypso Room, where the Division premiered the new Destination Tobago video and Marketing Manager, Avion Hercules, shared an overview of the Division’s marketing strategy for the destination.

Administrator of the Division, Ritchie Toppin, addressed the audience on behalf of Assemblyman Oswald Williams, Secretary of Tourism and Transportation, who was unable to attend. With so many key players within the industry present, Secretary Williams encouraged attendees to take advantage of such a rare meeting of the minds. “It is imperative that we take this opportunity to not only meet and greet, but form strategic alliances and begin meaningful discussions on the way forward for the industry,” he said.

Among the participants in the Road Show were the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association (THTA), the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI), BagoSports, Gulf City Mall, the Tour Operators Association and the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, who took full advantage of the opportunity to spread the word about their organizations.

On Friday 11 May the Brian Lara Promenade was the first stop on this trek around Trinidad. The vibrant Les Coteaux Cultural Troupe and charismatic Tobagonian crooner, Oscar B, were among the performances regaling passersby during the lunch hour. A team also spent the day at Trincity Mall, after which, the Show moved to Shaker’s bar, where signature drinks such as the Nylon Pool, and limber limbo dancers, transformed the popular Avenue liming spot into a miniature Tobago for just a few hours.

On Saturday 12 May, the Show headed south to Gulf City Mall, where the limbo dancers once again drew a crowd as mall patrons visited the stakeholder booths. The tour concluded at MovieTowne, Invaders Bay, where the Pleasure Pirates band delivered a charming, vintage performance and panist, Jamie Ramsey’s, renditions were very well received.

There were lots of prizes and giveaways throughout the event, including ferry tickets, courtesy the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago; complimentary dinners, courtesy the THTI; and complimentary accommodations, courtesy Bacolet Beach Club and the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort.
