Ella Andall and her band are set to deliver a thrilling performance at the Tobago Heritage Festival finale at Pigeon Point Heritage Park
Scarborough, Tobago, Tuesday, July 31, 2012: After a month-long cultural fiesta, weaved in the rich tapestry of the traditions of Tobago, the Tobago House of Assembly’s - Heritage Festival will come to a fitting climax with a day of celebrations on the auspicious commemoration of Emancipation Day today, August 01, 2012.
In a startling reminder of the past that has crafted their future – Tobagonians will honour the ancestors with various activities throughout the day and also celebrate the hope and prolific legacy that they left behind.
A large turnout is expected for the Emancipation Walk which commences at 11:00 am from the Fortune Chinese Restaurant to the Pigeon Point Heritage Park. While the Walk is a symbolic reminder of the heart-breaking years of toiling our ancestors endured at the hands of their enslaver, it is also a testimony to their resilient spirit to survive beyond the struggle.
An Exhibition and Cultural Showcase will follow the Walk. Displays of dance, drama and song, infused no doubt with the enthusiasm and vigour associated with the symbolism of the occasion, will be a delight to onlookers. Relics and artefacts will be on show – slices of a life of yesteryear that reflect the imagination, resourcefulness and creativity of our forefathers.
‘Freedom’ reigns in the grand finale to the day and the Festival, with a free concert at 5:00 p.m. at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park that is meant to further invoke a sense of pride and passion in Tobagonians. When stalwart performers Black Stalin and Brother Resistance take to the stage, it is hoped that their thought-provoking lyrics will deepen our appreciation for all things local. It goes without saying, that we can expect the powerful, soulful and inspirational renditions of Ella Andall and her band to leave the audience with a renewed urgency to be proud of their heritage – that gets more beautiful every day, bringing the curtain down on yet another successful Heritage Festival.
