Sugarcane Restaurant is known around for bringing the chic island flavor to the big city, at their downtown restaurant. A cozy, upscale corner on one of Brooklyn's busiest streets, with lots of vibes and unique flavored island cuisine. Sugarcane brought the same elements to the Brooklyn's Children Museum's Rooftop, for their annual, extremely sold out event, Flutter.

CROWD:
We arrived to an already formed crowd, that had already gotten the party started in the early afternoon. Everyone came out dressed to a T, in their best outfits, and brightest colors. Everyone! Both men and women were completely fashion forward, for this very social event. Soca artist, and Mr. Whine For Your Lover, Ziggy Rankins made a pass through, and Caribbean Gossip Queen, Jay Blessed served as a perfect host, showing the Sugarcane crew love.

VENUE?ACCESSIBILITY:
Parking is always a hassle on the Brooklyn streets, but on a night like this . . . .for an event like this, the three block walk was worth it. It was a nice, cool night to be dressed up and taking in some vibes on the rooftop. The museum's rooftop had a nice open flow, that made it easy to navigate (until it got ram packed). The space was used wisely and the decor was on point. Sugarcane never drops the ball when it comes to creating a welcoming environment, with their choice of decor. There were pastel colored drapery throughout the venue, and the butterflies throughout. Statement pieces like the glowing balls decked out in butterflies, the glowing bars, the glowing cocktail glasses, and the cupcake pyramid, added nice detail and served as nice accents to the space.

VIBES:
The energy remained constant throughout, and everyone seemed like they just wanted to enjoy a nice relaxing Sunday evening, take a lil whine, have more than a few drinks, enjoy some sweet music and socialize with their crews. The music vibe was pretty decent with DJ Anonymous, Back 2 Basics and Dr Wax doing their thing. The crowd seemed to be a lot bigger than previous years but they space seemed to hold. After a bit of time, it became hard to navigate through, especially to see the beautiful costumes for Sugarcane's section in Ramajay for mas on the parkway for Labor Day. I wish there was a stage to showcase them a tad bit, because I think some patrons missed out on the sneak peak. But the costumes were gorgeous, and the ladies modeling, definitely worked them!

FOOD/DRINKS:
Food is Sugarcane's specialty! You can't go wrong! The food hit the spot and the cocktails were good as well. I liked the idea of having the option of food both on the inside of the venue and the outside this year. With the amount of people that attended, there was a lot more accessibility and organization, and prevented the long line in the limin space. It just became daunting to navigate through the crowd to buy chit on one side of the event, to navigate back to buy a drink.

We definitely enjoyed Flutter 2012 and will always support the Sugarcane family. Big shout out to Charmaine, Spanish, Phoebe, and the entire Sugarcane crew.
