Well well well... you may ask yourself what is meant by the phrase "Soca or Die?" And though it may be simple for some people to answer, like promoter Dr. Jay or soca artistes Kes, Nadia Batson, Faye Ann, Bunji, Kerwin, Iwer, Swappi, Super Jigger, Shal Mashal, Problem Child, KI & 3VENI etc. etc. etc., it may be difficult for others to comprehend.

We are sure that the thousands who showed up at the event understand the meaning. We are sure that the Grenadians, the Guyanese, the Bajans, the Vincentians, the Trinibagonians and other islanders all understand what SOCA OR DIE! means. But in layman's terms, it means that Soca music is all WE need to party ... it's all we need to enjoy ourselves ... to have a great time and wine up a storm (or wine down for some). And for all the artists we mentioned already, the songs they produced in 2012 had Soca or Die written in their music ... seriously! And to back up their songs with the ability to perform in front of thousands is a feat only some can accomplish.

On Caribana Saturday night, the vibes at Soca or Die was tremendous. There was no doubt that the already top billed cast would give a great show. However, there was one shortcoming ... the rain. The showers poured down prior to the event, but as we know in our culture ... it's Soca or Die! So Trini Jungle Juice, still pumping! And so did the multitudes that came out in their numbers. Probably 3000-4000 fans ... maybe more.

The show kicked off with Problem Child and ended with Kes the Band, Super Jigger TC and Swappi. And all artistes in between, no doubt held their own. Some notables ... Bunji and Fay-Ann as always, gave a good performance. Kerwin Du Bois, known for his writing skills, is becoming a must have at every carnival fete! Du Bois and his trusty DJ Stephen are a match made in heaven. K.I and JMC 3Veni kept the ladies attention, and Iwer... well allyuh know how Iwer does do it! And if you are a follower of Kes, you would already know that he mashed up (and down) the place. With his full contingent, KES the Band left no stone unturned.

Overall, a great show and experience for all. The rain slowed things down a bit and shortened the performances of Shal Mashall, Super Jigger TC and Swappi but Dr. Jay as promised made up for that in Big People Fete!

The DJs all did a good job in filling the gaps in between the performances. Event Dr. Jay, decked off in his Soca or Die t-shirt, went all out on the tables. Shout outs to DJ Spice, Barrie Hype, Young Chow and the Soca Warrior Crew for keeping every waist wining!

Jay, wicked job putting together this cast. Hosted at the famous Wild Water Kingdom, you could not ask for a better venue/location. A bit far, but worth the drive. Christina, thank you for the hospitality and your professionalism.
