(London, 9 October 2012) -- The third annual Soca Music Awards will take place on Saturday 27th October, at the luxurious Holiday Inn London – Bloomsbury, Coram Street, London, WC1N 1HT.

The Soca Music Awards brings together, in recognition, the pioneers and the artists of soca and calypso, saluting and acknowledging the hard working producers, writers, arrangers, performers and other relevant industry figures, who have all made significant contributions to the growth of the genre.

Soca News feels strongly about showcasing UK-based talent, and as a leading publication within the arena their goal is to always break ground when it comes to promoting soca music and culture here in the UK.

Whilst soca stands on its own and has a large following, widespread awareness is increased when there are ‘crossover’ tracks, as there have been by artists such as Kevin Lyttle (St Vincent), Rupee and Alison Hinds (Barbados) - right back to Arrow (Montserrat) in the very early days. Soca, the ‘Soul of Calypso’, has come a long way since its inception in the 1970s. The music can now be heard on stations such as Choice 96.9FM & 107.1FM, BBC 1Xtra, Bang Radio 103.6FM and a number of community and web based radio stations up and down the country.

Attendees at the awards ceremony, as well as being in support of the UK soca industry, will enjoy a night of entertainment and a sumptuous Caribbean buffet, all for the price of £45.

Voting for this year’s awards has begun; votes may be cast up until Wednesday 24 October at www.socanews.com/socamusicawards/vote, so everyone is asked to make their votes count.
