Annual Carnival Creates Huge Fun and Financial Impact for South Florida
October 17, 2012 (Miami, FL) - The 2012 Miami Broward One Carnival celebrated Caribbean culture at the Sunlife Stadium playing host to thousands of fans who participated. Huge crowds gathered to marvel in the splendor of over twenty-three Mas bands, Panorama, and an incredible stage show headlined by Soca King Machel Montano. “Carnival continues to grow in South Florida. I take great pride in being part of that systematic growth, where the artistry, originality, and overall performance of Carnival continues to make a positive impact on South Florida”, said Carnival Chairman, Mario Zamora. This year’s carnival’s attendance has grown by over 30% since last year.
The energy surrounding carnival week in Miami garnered global attention further emulating thoughts that Miami continues to be one of the most sought after carnival destinations in the world. The magic city welcomed over thousands of patrons who participated in the week long events associated with Miami Broward Carnival including Junior Carnival, Kings & Queens, the infamous Panorama, Jouvert, and over fifty “fetes” aka pre-parties prior to the grand finale on Carnival Sunday at Sunlife Stadium.
“With tens of thousands of visitors from around the world, nation, and the State of Florida, Miami Broward Carnival demonstrated the power of cultural tourism and provided a needed boost to the South Florida economy in filling the beds of hotels, the seats of restaurants and rent-a-cars, and the doorways of fete venues. The Caribbean-American market continues to grow exponentially and reveal potential opportunities from corporate community” said Marlon Hill.
Carnival Executive Director Ruthven Williams mentioned "It is such a pleasure to get feedback from our bands, steelbands, masqueraders and participants who all had such a wonderful time during the Carnival week. Our thanks to all of them, also to the Board, the many supporters, sponsors and others who contributed to the success of the 2012 Carnival. I particularly thank and recognize the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners for their continued and ongoing support of our event."
Additionally, celebrations were in store as Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago celebrated their 50th anniversaries. "With our commitment to the Caribbean Diaspora as a whole, I would like to thanks the various Consulates who assisted us and the huge contribution made by the Trinidad and Tobago Consul General and staff." Rafiek Mohammed.
This year’s carnival garnered global media coverage from London to Trinidad, Canada, and here in the USA.
