CALYPSO ROSE, the first female Calypso artist to receive acclaim in Trinidad and Tobago during the peak of Calypso music in the 60s and 70s, is most noted for her hit song “Fire in Meh Wire,” which has become a nationally recognized Calypso anthem. In addition to performing this legendary hit, the artist will mark her Arsht Center debut with fan favorites from her 50-year career, including “Israel by Bus,” the chart-topping lead single from her latest album Calypso Rose.

“The Arsht Center’s Live at Knight series honors Miami’s multicultural community with iconic performers such as Calypso Rose,” said John Richard, President and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center. “Rose is a Caribbean monarch who has earned her legendary status and she is sure to make a memorable impression on Miami audiences.”

CALYPSO ROSE (McCartha Lewis) was born in the small island of Tobago in the West Indies. She started singing at the age of 15, and for more than five decades, has been a trailblazer in a male-dominated music genre. She was the first woman to win the coveted ‘Calypso King’ crown in Trinidad & Tobago. Organizers quickly changed the title to ‘Calypso Monarch,’ which Rose went on to win for five consecutive years.

The Caribbean crooner has taken Calypso music all over the world with her witty lyrics and lively tempo. She has shared the stage with some of the biggest international stars, including Michael Jackson and Bob Marley. Most recently, CALYPSO ROSE’s personal life, groundbreaking musical achievements and commitment to defend women´s rights were captured in "Calypso Rose - The Lioness of the Jungle," an intimate documentary which aired on PBS in 2012.

Other previously announced Live at Knight performances include: Matisyahu (January 19, 2013); Kodo (March 9, 2013); Diana Krall (April 2, 2013); and Esperanza Spalding (April 19, 2013).
