SCARBOROUGH, Tobago (June 7, 2013): The race is on as teams from both Tobago and Trinidad return to the Pigeon Point Heritage Park to compete in the third annual Tobago Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 10:30 a.m.

Hosted by the Division of Tourism and Transportation, the event has grown into one of the most anticipated activities on the island’s calendar in just a few short years.

A major component of the Tobago House of Assembly’s sport tourism thrust, the event is designed to position Tobago as an ideal destination for not only leisure seekers, but also sports enthusiasts. A strategic combination of one of Tobago’s most popular beaches with an activity that continues to grow in popularity locally and internationally, the Tobago Dragon Boat Festival showcases the island’s beauty alongside its capacity to host major sporting events.

Over 20 teams from both islands will compete for titles in the areas of overall mixed team, overall female team and overall male team. Additionally, students will once again have a chance to show what they’re made of with the Secondary School category returning after a successful debut in 2012.

As such, thousands of residents and visitors are expected to converge on Pigeon Point’s white-sand beach to take in the action on the water. Apart from cheering on their favorite teams however, patrons will also able to sample a delicious mix of Chinese and Creole cuisine at the food court and experience Chinese culture through entertaining displays, including the dragon dance.
