“The Magic City” is set to compete at the 17th annual American Black Film Festival June 19-23, 2013 in Miami, FL is nominated for the Grand Jury prize for Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film

Miami, FL - Paving the way for a new generation of filmmakers, local Miami filmmaker, R.Malcolm Jones promises to be one of the breakout filmmakers at this year’s 17th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) taking place June 19-23, 2013 in Miami. Jones is set to create a pivotal turning point within the industry with his debut film, The Magic City premiering at ABFF. South Florida eagerly awaits the rise of this University of Miami alumni with an innate storytelling gift. The Magic City movie is a coming of age story based on the hope and resilience of three young individuals struck with overwhelming tragedies and exhilarating adventures. The characters forge a lifelong friendship through adversity in one of Miami’s most unforgiving neighborhoods, Liberty City. The Magic City will screen on Friday, June 21 at 6:10pm at the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Road  Miami Beach). A private VIP reception will be sponsored by Remy Martin immediately following the screening. Guests will enjoy premium cocktails from the portfolio of the legendary House of Remy Martin. Signature cocktails such as "Lovely" featuring RemyV will be handcrafted by Haven's master mixologist, Isaac Grillo. A second screening of the film will take place on Sunday, June 23rd at the Films Over Miami Showcase at 12 noon at the Colony Theatre.

Magic City stars Jenifer Lewis – Black Reel Award winner, Annie Award nominee and two time Image Award nominee, Keith David-two time Emmy Award winner, two time Daytime Emmy Award Nominee and Annie Award nominee, Jamie Hector-2011 Black Reel Award nominee, breakout role in HBO’s The Wire, Latrice Jackson, LaShay Jackson, and Amiya Thomas. The Magic City is Executive Produced by Udonis Haslem and Vincent Herbert is the Co-Executive Producer.

Kodak Award winner, R. Malcolm Jones is a young man with a notable career. Jones is the owner of New Revolution Studios and is best known for his music video directing with over 100 credits. He has been nominated by both MTV and BET for Best Music Video Director.
