The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago last week officially handed over the picturesque and multipurpose Knowles Street Recreation Ground in Curepe to the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation and residents of Curepe. The facility comprises a well-outfitted pavilion, hard court, children’s play park, car park, jogging/walking track and cricket practice nets as part of the Sports Company of Trinidad & Tobago’s drive to upgrade such grounds and make them more accessible for sport and recreation in communities across the country. Regional Corporations have responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of local recreation grounds like this one at Knowles Street.

The Honourable Anil Roberts, Minister of Sport joined his Cabinet colleague and Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, the Honourable Prakash Ramadhar for the brief ceremony. Councillor for the area and Acting Chairman of the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, Ms Rosanna Sookdeo detailed the many appeals made to get the necessary upgrades to the ground and praised Minister Roberts and the Sports Company for their response and delivery of the facilities. The pavilion is the centrepiece of the project, and features lighting, changing rooms and toilet/bath facilities.

Following the handover of a commemorative key to the facility from Minister Roberts to Councillor Sookdeo, a combined SporTT/Ministry of Sport team took on a Curepe-based team in a friendly football game. SporTT/Ministry won the encounter by two goals to nil.
