The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) recently hosted a celebratory function for the national men's hockey team who made history at the Pan Am Cup in Brampton, Canada, securing a hard-fought bronze medal after a 46 year drought. By virtue of the third place finish, the national men's team has now qualified to participate in the next edition of the Pan Am Cup in 2017.

For a period of three months prior to the tournament, the team was assisted in their physical and mental preparation by the SporTT's Elite Development & Performance Unit (EDPU). At least three times a week, the players underwent physical assessments, strength and conditioning, massage therapy and sport psychology sessions. According to captain Darren Cowie, this measure of intangible support was invaluable to the locally-based players and contributed to their ability to extend themselves on the field of play and their eventual success.

SporTT CEO John Mollenthiel was also present to bring congratulations on behalf of the company and the Ministry. He acknowledged the commitment shown by the EDPU staff and offered their services to any other national athlete or team that is keen on improving their physical preparation for competition.

The women's squad, which will also participate in the Pan Am Cup from 21 to 28 September 2013 in Mendoza, Argentina are currently benefitting from sport science and medicine services of the EDPU.
