Confused? You shouldn't be. This certified 2K9 Carnival Soca Chutney hit is the hallmark coming out tune for Shawn "Da Ma$tamind" Noel as a lead vocalist.

The well known award winning producer has taken yet another step forward in his life long musical journey.

For those of you still befuddled, Shawn's vocals are actually featured on this track right along side long time collaborator Patch. The "East Indian" male lead is Shawn "Da Ma$tamind" Noel.

Some might be surprised but for those who know him, Shawn is the infamous mischievous impersonator who never grows tired of finding new ways to entertain those around him.

Maybe that is why moving from the background to front stage was not such a difficult transition for him.

"I love to entertain, and this is just another way to make people happy by enjoying myself onstage."

Initially intimidated by the, obvious to everyone else but him, move he has found his groove having perfected his stage presence all summer long performing "Jouvert Jam" all over New York with his musical friend Lyrikal.

"That experience was heartening and really gave me the confidence and built my anticipation for Carnival 2K9. It also helps that Rum and Roti is getting a lot of positive air play in Trinidad."

"Rum and Roti" is a true brainchild of the Ma$tamind camp, as it was Mrs Ma$tamind who gave Shawn and Patch the idea for the song. After that, Patch penned some of the lyrics while Shawn did all the hooks and the music for this irresistible hip-shaking tune that has no doubt shot up sales in both rum and roti.

With the response from DJ's and music lovers alike it has been almost a fairy tale ride for Shawn vocally, going from simply doing background vocals while producing to now being a sought after lead vocalist for such a strong Chutney Monarch contender.

"It really was Mrs Ma$tamind who gave me the push, the desire was there but her encouragement and continued support made the difference."

With its hypnotic chant of "Come for roti..." taking over the airwaves this song and Shawn will no doubt stamp their undeniable claim in the Carnival 2K9 Soca arena. As Boxing day looms Trinidad and Tobago await with cocked waistlines to simply follow merrily along as Da Ma$tamind himself leads them along the melodic path of food, fun and fetes!

So now when yuh drink yuh rum and eat yuh roti, you know what we mean when we say Ma$stamind is mmm ... mmmm good for everybody belly!
