Trinidad and Tobago has earned its first medal at the FINA Junior World Swimming Championships through US-based Dylan Carter who earned silver in the 50m butterfly last evening in 23.98. The elite junior meet is taking place in Dubai where Trinidad and Tobago is fielding a 5-member team, including Jonathan Ramkissoon, Tyla Martin, Joshua Romany and Kristin Julien.

The Honourable Anil Roberts, Minister of Sport was in high praise of the 16 year old swimmer, said, “I admire the consistency Dylan has shown throughout the meet as well as his tenacity in going for a medal in the 50m butterfly with a brilliant swim. For Trinidad & Tobago to celebrate his achievement in the eve of our 51st year of independence is truly a blessing as a gain our athletes do us proud on the international stage.”

Carter expressed his delight on twitter today, revelling in his ‘coveted silverware’. Carter has made three finals (100m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly) thus far at the Championships, making this event a breakthrough moment for him as well as for Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry of Sport and the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago extend their congratulations to Dylan Carter on his silver medal triumph and wish him continued success.
