Over 2,000 participants flooded Constantine Park, Macoya for LifeSport’s Sport and Family Day held at the weekend. LifeSport is a two-year programme incorporating sport, life and trade skills targeting at-risk young males in 33 communities in Trinidad. The brainchild of the Honourable Anil Roberts, LifeSport is the first initiative of its kind that uses sport as a foundation for a successful transition in life.

The Sport and Family Day also featured competitions in the three sporting disciplines of LifeSport – football, basketball, cricket – after which champions from each community were crowned. This took place alongside novelty events for children as well as entertainment from leading artistes such as Singing Sandra, Benjai, All Rounder and Orlando Octave.



Speaking at the event, Minister Roberts said, “The turnout today, despite the rainy weather, is exceptional. To see these young men competing and playing hard with their families proudly looking on is very rewarding. These young men have not been all together since the LifeSport launch in 2012 so I’m sure there are lots of stories being shared among them. I am pleased with the first year of the programme’s operation as many of our objectives have been met and I’m looking forward to the second year and the fact that about 1800 lives will be set on the right path for the future – in terms of their personal growth, employability and positive outlook on life.”



LifeSport is coordinated out of 33 community centres across Trinidad and can boast of several success, including  participants making professional and semi-professional teams, becoming micro entrepreneurs and travelling abroad to play sport.
