Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. August 28, 2014 -- Still an unfamiliar name to the masses but certainly making a mark in an industry that spans cultures and countries. Music is his life, and for Kevon Joseph, investing in his craft and marketing tactics to push his music, is paying off. The young Trinidad based entertainer, who goes by the sobriquet K Kay is preparing for a Carnival 2015 single release in the coming days, but even amid that, he continues to go hard, having recently scored some major points overseas.

Having made some tremendous inroads in the US market with the release of his first studio album, entitled, “Home For Carnival,” Joseph is confident that musical success is coming. He released the album via Rhona Fox’s Fox Fuse Distribution company in NYC and later learnt that the album was placed as a prized feature on iTunes New and Noteworthy chart. Things even went a step further when Joseph signed a film placement deal with Sugo Music in the US for the very same album. “There’s a lot going on- a lot people aren’t aware of, but I’m working hard to make it happen,” said the young vocalist. For years, K Kay has pushed to ensure that his music receives the attention he feels it deserves. Now, together with manager, John Arnold, Joseph is making that much-desired breakthrough.

At home in T&T, the young entertainer says he wishes the industry were less of a popularity contest. “It’s sad but I just feel that no matter how good the music of a relatively unknown artiste is, the radio stations won’t give it a chance to grow on the masses. I wish they would understand that everyone’s tastes are different and no one should dictate what anyone else should enjoy, especially when it comes to music,” said the artiste, a bit disturbed by the challenge of getting radio airplay locally. Despite how difficult a feat it often is to get the support at home however, K Kay says he has no intention of becoming deterred. “My music has appealed to wide audiences outside of Trinidad and Tobago and although I know here at home, it’s a fight, I won’t stop trying,” he said.

Ahead of 2015, K Kay is releasing a Millbeatz produced single on the Drift Away riddim. The song is called, “I Like It” and sits strongly beside a track done by fellow entertainer, Zan on the same riddim. Strategically releasing before the popular stars of soca begin flooding the airwaves, Joseph says he knows this song will appeal to all true soca lovers, offering a melodic energy that’s synonymous with the sweetness of any carnival.
