Look, it doesn’t matter if you are a Carnival Virgin  or a Carnival Veteran, there is so much to learn about Carnival and many ways to improve your experience and make your experience richer than before.

So here’s what we are going to do.

We are going to provide you with some tips from one of our in-house Carnival Specialist – Dr. Rhadi Ferguson, also known as the “Carnival Doctor”.   Dr. Ferguson is a 2004 Olympian, a former National Judo Coach for the Bahamas Judo Federation, a bona-fide carnival junkie and the man that has written the go-to guide for all carnival virgins on the planet on the best way to prepare for carnival.

So without any further adieu, lets start out with tip number three.

Carnival Tip #3 From
Rhadi “The Carnival
Doctor” Ferguson

Okay, so I know you are SUPER EXCITED about Carnival but let me give you some REALLY important advice.

First let me tell you little story.....

A person that I know, went to Carnival and had a WONDERFUL TIME. And he was doing what we all do at carnival. He was winin', mashing up de place, palancing, dancing, liming and freeing himself up on de road.

He was having a ball.

He was posting pictures to his instagram and facebook page and meeting people and just introducing himself as normal people do.

It's natural.

No harm, no foul.

But what he did not do is
this one simple yet important thing.

==================
It's a CRUCIAL box that you
need to check before leaving
for Carnival!
==================

He did NOT set up his facebook page to APPROVE the tags in the pictures before adding them to his facebook page wall. So, the carnival veterans that know this already, which he met, were tagging him in photos assuming that he KNEW this crucial piece of information.

(As I said before and will say again --  JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A CARNIVAL VETERAN, THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CARNIVAL EXPERT!!)

The Veterans assumed that he read the Ultimate Road Ready Guide and had a veteran coaching him through the process.

But this person did not. He was just "winging it" and having a great time.   Unbeknownst to him, all the pictures from his last 48 hours of fetting were on his facebook page wall.

I'm sure, as you are reading this.... you can see how this was a problem!  LOL!!

Needless to say, his wife was not appreciative of the pictures nor the members of his church community or son's flag football team, which he coaches.  (I'm still laughing!)

Carnival is GREAT, but it has a CONTEXT just like everything else. I'm sure you would not wear your carnival outfit to a business meeting nor would you wear it to the grocery store. Why?  Because it would be out of context.

If you take something and place it in a different context it can be perceived as inappropriate. Therefore to keep Carnival in its appropriate context and place.

ALL VETERAN CARNIVAL goers follow these rules:

1.  We NEVER post pics of the people in our crew (without checking with them first and asking). We text or email the pics to people in our crew and allow THEM to post them as they see fit

2. We take group pictures and photos which are quality "clean" photos that capture the moment in the fete or on the road which are "postable"

3. All candid shots that we take of each other are given directly to the person (I've mentioned this twice, I'm aware).  DO NOT TAKE A CANDID PICTURE OF YOUR FRIEND IN THE FETE AND POST IT BECAUSE YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY OR HILARIOUS. It is not!

4. If you WERE NOT THERE, you do NOT get to see the pictures.  That's the rule. PERIOD.

5. We do NOT tag our friends if their pictures are on facebook sites like TrinijungleJuice or any of the other major carnival sites.  We INFORM them and laugh but we do not tag them. (and we laugh our asses off if they get caught winin' up a storm!) If you get caught, you just get caught.

These rules are in place not in order to hide BUT out of respect for people and their professional and personal lives.

Everybody's situation is different and if you follow these rules, no matter what the situation, all persons are respected.

Just so that you know.......

There are PLENTY OF PICTURES and VIDEOS of me out there which don't catch me in the best of circumstances. My boys and I laugh because, that's carnival.

As a matter of fact, I'm on Bunji Garlin's Official Trunk On D Road Video at the 1:42 to 1:45 mark. When my wife and I saw it we laughed because she remembered when I crossed the street in Trinidad to go an "teef a wine".

So that's all for today. But please remember --  MANAGING your social media is serious.
