This was the 20th anniversary of DOH CRY AH LEAVIN' (commonly known as DCAL) and a farewell to Toronto's number one club for soca events, the Kool Haus. This year’s line up featured a pre-Carnival performance by KES THE BAND, a wicked pan performance by Earl La Pierre (Eman of the Kingdom of Soca family) who had the crowd singing along and everything, and of course the entire KOS DJs who mashed up the place with all the soca hits. But that’s not all, with DCAL XX having SOLD OUT six weeks prior to the event (a possible record in Toronto), a second date was added by popular demand. Yes, the biggest fete just got even BIGGER and was a great farewell to both the Kool Haus and those going home to T&T for Carnival!

From the second we walked in the building you could feel the energy, everyone was ready to pump.  It was packed on both nights (Jan 30th & 31st); Friday to capacity and with the extended Saturday show there was a fair amount of soca heads, and the energy was intense. Those who missed Friday's DCAL were super happy for Day 2. And in the words of Dr. Jay, "Just Smile Nuh!" The size and layout of the Kool Haus is just perfect for fetes with easy parking all around - this venue will truly be missed. The DCAL crowd was dressed ready to fete, some were even dressed in parts of previous carnival costumes. On Friday, we also spotted Toronto's very own Kardinal Offishall in the crowd enjoying himself.

Kes The Band came on stage at approximately 1 am and his vibe, along with his band members, was intense... the energy was just amazing. Kees performed all his top hits from today (Fallin’, General Don, Million) and yesteryear and had everyone wining like we were on de road. He truly brought the magic of carnival out in all songs performed. As for the ladies... what can we say, they love Kees and were pushing their way to the front just to get on stage to wine on one of the sexiest soca artistes in the world.  On both nights, we didn't want the vibes to end at all. DCAL gave me all kind of Soca powers from the time I walked in, and I'm definitely more excited to go home for Carnival now. We’re sure quite a few people went and bought tickets for T&T Carnival after seeing both performances.

Dr. Jay de Soca Prince (KOS) events always have great service, from handing out zip lock bags to protect your cell phones, mix tapes of new chunes and horns for the crowd to get on a little extra bad. They also had Soca t-shirts on sale when entering/leaving the party, which included “Tuesday on the Rocks” tees for the band’s 10th anniversary concert to be held in Trinidad on Tuesday 10th February.

This 20th DCAL anniversary was really not a fete (well fetes) to miss and was an epic end to the closing of our beloved Kool Haus.  Shoutouts to Dr. Jay and The KOS family for always delivering fantastic parties and to Kes The Band for giving such amazing performances and sharing the Carnival 2k15 vibes with Toronto!
