Born Jamericans, the duo that took the world by storm with their unique hybrid of dancehall and hip hop, will reunite in Trinidad and Tobago when they perform at the Hennessy Artistry Reggae on the Bay.

Known for hits such as “Cease and Seckle” and “Boom Shak a Tak”, Born Jamericans were among the first to transcend the barrier that conventional dancehall music now enjoys, by creating a hybrid of hip-hop and dancehall music.

Americans of Jamaican parentage, the duo of Edley Shine (Horace Payne) and Notch (Norman Howell) are considered pioneers in taking dancehall over the threshold to mainstream culture and are considered some of the biggest names to emerge on the dancehall scene.

Their two albums, Kids from Foreign and Yardcore were chart successes, peaking at number on the US Reggae charts.

Even though the group parted ways in 1998, the both artistes have continued to produce music and perform as individuals.

The honey-voiced Notch has been featured on hit albums such as Mas Flow 2, Mas Flow 2.5, Chosen Few II: El Documental, Barrio Fino, and The Cosmic Game. His first solo album, Raised by the People, was released in May 2007.

In 2009 Shine linked with acclaimed DJ and Producer JButtah on the project We Invented The Refix. What Started as a single remix of 50 Cent’s “Baby by Me” has garnered the duo heavy rotation across the world with Beyoncé’s“Party Refix”, The Weekend & Drake Crew “Love Refix”, Rihanna’s“Diamonds Refix” and countless others.

In 2015, Shine has re-emerged on the Hip-hop and Dancehall Scene with three blazing singles poised to establish him as a creative writer and visualiser for crossover reggae.
