He breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the season, but eagerly prepared for an event that’s held near and dear to his heart each year.

Shurwayne Winchester, the first runner up in the 2009 Groovy Soca Monarch competition, says he feels elated at the success that he’s had in 2009 thus far, a success that essentially propelled him to host the 2nd edition of the Shurwayne Winchester children’s show at the Dwight Yorke stadium’s carpark, in Bacolet, Tobago.

The event was held on March 1st and saw many within the soca industry come out in support of the Tobagonian soca phenomenon’s effort to give the children of the sister isle something to smile about. From Destra Garcia to Blaax, Tony Prescott, Cassi, Iwer George, TC, Dr. Black Stalin, Maxi Priest and of course Shurwayne and the highly impressive Y.O.U. band, the children of Tobago and their parents got a treat of sorts with bouncy castles, an impressive forest- like display and finger licking treats that truly proved to be the icing on the cake.

As Shurwayne explained, Tobago will always be home and as such, he strives to reassure his local fanbase that his commitment will always be to ensuring that they are never left out- that the tiny sister isle is recognized for producing some of the most industrious people to the world.

The children’s show was the ultimate forum to showcase the newly formed band to the people of Tobago and truth be told, many walked away, incredibly satisfied with what they’d seen and heard. The movement to take soca music to global heights now continues as along with many other soca artistes, Shurwayne Winchester and this time, The Band, Y.O.U. will forge forward to carnivals of the world where soca music reigns supreme.
