M•A•C is announcing its partnership with THE LOST TRIBE for their 2018 Carnival presentation.  M•A•C Director of Makeup Artistry, Romero Jennings, has worked with Executive Creative Director for THE LOST TRIBE, Valmiki Maharaj, to design the makeup looks for the 2018 Costume presentation.  As key artist, Romero will lead the execution of the makeup looks by a team of certified M•A•C makeup artists for the official photo shoot of the costumes as well as backstage at the Festival of the Bands on July 15, 2017.

M•A•C is excited to partner with THE LOST TRIBE which is known as a creative force in the world of Carnival.  THE LOST TRIBE represents a growing demand for a more theatrical and inspired take on Carnival.  With an eye for fashion, Lost Tribe views Carnival through an artistic and worldly lens while paying homage to the diverse history, culture and people of Trinidad in their designs.  The partnership between THE LOST TRIBE and M•A•C was therefore a natural fit given M•A•C’s roots as a makeup artistry brand.  M•A•C is at the forefront of fashion trendsetting and honours individuality and self-expression above all else.  “Carnival really is about embellishment, bright colors, and having fun”, says Romero.  “M•A•C is known for highly pigmented products and for pushing the envelope when it comes to artistic expression.  So working with THE LOST TRIBE is a perfect fit for M•A•C.”

THE LOST TRIBE's presentation for 2018 is inspired by an originally scripted romantic tragedy that compels its audience to contemplate the complexity of our most innate desire – to love and be loved.  It’s the story of seven sisters that fall for a mysterious wanderer and are left with heartache when he wanders on.  Set under the native Poui trees in Port of Spain, the tale is symbolic of the Magnificent Seven historic homes along the Savannah.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Valmiki Maharaj first collaborated with TRIBE on their presentation Birds of a Feather in 2008 and has continued as a member of their creative team ever since.  In 2015, when THE LOST TRIBE was created under the TRIBE umbrella, Valmiki was at the helm as their Executive Creative Director.  He has made excellence his standard through every venture, both personal and professional.  Valmiki has gained a reputation for not only consistently producing beautiful, sought-after Carnival costumes, but for his effervescent spirit and enthusiastic approach to the art of masquerade.

With over 25 years at M•A•C, Romero Jennings has worked with a star-studded list of celebrity clientele in addition to creating makeup for Broadway plays, music videos, and magazines from Vogue to Harper’s Bazaar.  Romero also takes part in New York, Milan, Tokyo and Paris Fashion weeks.  He has a hands-on approach to his work with an eye for detail.  He credits his sensitivity for colour to his background and infancy in Kingston, Jamaica where he says that colours are more saturated than anywhere else he’s travelled.
