After all the rushing about through the season, chasing fete after fete, attending calypso, steelpan and mas competitions, then masquerading through the streets of the cities and boroughs Monday and Tuesday, one looks forward to something more laid back, up close and personal to cooldown from the Carnival madness.

One would appreciate some kaiso, a little soca, lots of laughter and good company in a rather nice, comfortable setting where there is good food and premium drinks, or some refreshing juices for those wishing to detox from the alcohol. The perfect way to recover from the wine and jam.
Well, Randy Glasgow Productions (RGP) is offering respite in the way of a show incorporating kaiso, comedy and soca along with a lavish spread of local cuisine including roti and bake & shark all for one cost.
This takes place on Saturday February 17 when RGP presents the “Calypso & Comedy Cooldown 2,” at the National Academy For The Performing Arts, Port of Spain.

The “Calypso & Comedy Cooldown 2” will feature not one or two, but an unprecedented five headline acts namely, Calypso Rose, SuperBlue, David Rudder, Lord Relator and Olatunji Yearwood. Each of these artistes will deliver concert length performances, each giving the audience the most popular songs from their respective portfolios.
Another element of the “Calypso & Comedy Cooldown 2” is the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to multiple National Road March and International Soca Monarch winner, SuperBlue who in 2018 celebrates 38 years in the calypso/soca arenas.

Over the years SuperBlue has sent audiences at RGP events wild with his hits among them – “Soca Baptist,” “Ethel,” “Unknown Steelband,” “Get Something And Wave, “Lara,” “Flag Party” and more. RGP believes now is the time to give back to the iconic artiste for whom there are some surprises planned on the night along with being celebrated by his peers, Calypso Rose, Rudder, Relator and the young Olatunji  who is as charismatic as his elders.
The comedy aspect of the show will see a performance by the Bajan comedic duo known as Rum and Koke. The duo comprises, Chrispen Hackett and Simon Alleyne who met in 2008 as part of the comedic group Laff-It-Off. Noting that they had great chemistry together, they quickly became friends.

The two came up with the concept of Rum and Koke while backstage preparing for a performance. “Rum and Koke was born from a joke. Before going on stage we talk a lot of crap instead of meditating and focusing on the performance ahead,” Chrispen said.
What sets them apart from the average comedy act is their innovative style. Their skits and use of sound effects are not traditional but rather quite physical as they create themes for performances based on things around them, much like international entertainer Katt Williams.

Simon explained, “We bring our themes to life. We don’t tell you comedy, we show it. We appeal to our audiences’ every sense as we employ the use of call and response to engage them.”
Also on stage will be several popular local stand-up comics and comedic dramatists.
