On Thursday 23rd July, the Trinidad & Tobago Powerboat Association & Carib Brewery Limited launched the 2009 Carib Beer Great Race at The Queens Park Oval, Conference Room. The Great Race, will take place on Saturday 29th August beginning 7:00am at Chaguaramas, Trinidad and ending 12:00 noon at Store Bay, Tobago.
 
Racer’s and media were briefed by Mr. Sadiq Ali, Brand Marketing Manager– Carib Brewery Limited, Mr. Garth Marshal, President - Trinidad & Tobago Powerboat Association and other Executive Board Members on the mechanics of the event including speed class rules, safety regulations (race rules, patrol & marker boat alignment, safety equipment requirements, emergency response and actions), race day communications and course mapping.
 
Preliminary entries have show that roughly twenty-five boats will challenge the seas and there rivals in hopes of obtaining their glorified speed class challenge trophy this year. With seven speed classes in total, the event is designed to include willing race participants from Modified Max speeds (125mph) to Pirogue & Pleasure craft speeds (40mph).

The TTPBA would like to advise the public that race entry remains open until Tuesday 25th August, 2009.

The TTPBA & Carib will also be hosting the 2009 Carib Beer Great Race Boat & Car Show & Parade on Sunday 16th August beginning at 11:00 am along the Audrey Jeffers Highway and proceeding throughout Port-of-Spain finally ending at the Hasley Crawford Staduim at 2:00pm where the boats will be on display till 10:00pm along with vehicles from Streetwise Sounds Car Show.
