The Digicel Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Tournament which is taking place in 17 venues around the island, is an excellent opportunity for young cricketers from Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Guyana, Jamaica and five teams from the UK, to gain valuable match experience and improve their cricket skills. The tournament has grown rapidly over recent years and is seen as a pivotal step for young cricketers with past participants including Brian Lara, Courtney Browne, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Sherwin Campbell and Kemar Roach, who have all gone on to have successful International cricket careers.
Digicel’s Head of Marketing, Robert Chase, said of the tournament, “Digicel is delighted to be involved in the Digicel Sir Garfield Sobers International Cricket Tournament which allows young, talented cricketers from Barbados and across the Caribbean and the UK to represent their schools in a competitive, friendly atmosphere, against their regional and international peers. The tournament is in its fifth year and it continues to be one of the most anticipated, dynamic and developmental cricket tournaments in the region, with each year being bigger and better than before.
"This tournament is yet another example of Digicel’s commitment to supporting the development of West Indies cricket right across the Caribbean and we wish each participating team the best of luck."
The Digicel Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Tournament is also supported by the Barbados Tourism Authority who drive awareness of the tournament across the region and the UK to attract more participating teams each year.
