Port-of-Spain, Trinidad (Sonique Solutions)
–Trinidad and Tobago’s telecommunications giant Bmobile recently partnered with 3 top entertainers to unveil a new event concept entitled “Bmobile Blackberry Swing”. Through the use of their pin numbers, Bmobile blackberry customers were able to access the event and gain the opportunity to mingle with one another as well as with their favourite celebrities in an intimate, exclusive environment.

The “Swing”, which was conceptualized and produced by Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons and Super Jigga TC, took place at the popular Port-Of-Spain nightspot 51 Degrees and was a high fashion affair with attendees and specially invited guests dressed at their best in much the same vein as a New York City fashion show. Bmobile, being a service provider for blackberry, was a perfect fit for the role of main sponsor of this festive occasion.

Bmobile used this unique social mixer to showcase two revolutionary applications for the blackberry. One is IMPATICA which allows users to connect their blackberries to their computers in order to view files and documents on a larger scale. This is useful for frequent travelers or those persons who are always on the go. The other feature which received much attention at the event was the GOOGLE LATITTUDE application whereby one can use one’s gmail account to access the locations of anyone on his/her blackberry list (a feature which was praised by many corporate and sales executives in attendance who identified several benefits of this application)

The diligent work of Garlin, Lyons, TC and the Bmobile events team was indeed apparent as the club’s ambience proved to be one of interest, excitement and comfort. Complementing this setting were strategically placed flat screens displaying the latest in blackberry advances and the hottest club music provided by DJ Assassin.

In addition to devoted customers and corporate clients, the “Swing” also attracted many members of entertainment fraternity including TV/Radio hosts Jason Williams and Whitney Husbands, Rapso artistes Ozzy Magic and Andy Venture, Soca stars Fireball, Trini Jacobs and Problem Child (St. Vincent), as well as West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo.

There was no shortage of surprises and treats during the night’s festivities. The event went into high gear with the arrival of The Fire Man, Bunji Garlin, The International Power/Groovy Soca Monarch, Fay-Ann Lyons and direct from Jamaica the King of the Dancehall, Beenie man, who all relished the opportunity to interact with their fans and fellow entertainers.

Bunji, a Bmobile sponsored artiste and co-producer of the event, stated that he loves being affiliated with the brand and was pleased with the execution of the night’s activities. “Who wasn’t here tonight missed out” claimed Garlin. With regards to the latest features of the Bmobile blackberry, Bunji focused on the Google Latitude and acknowledged that even though some may view it as a tool for “macoing” there were benefits and the services can be useful in cases of emergency.

His wife Fay-Ann Lyons jokingly stated that the application would be great for wives to track their husbands but also concurred with Garlin’s statement about its benefits. She explained that her “Berry” had been quite useful to her as an artiste and can be helpful to not only corporate personnel but to all persons.

Beenie Man, who was glad to be back in T&T and who thoroughly enjoyed himself at the Blackberry Swing offered this sentiment, “when it comes to Bmobile and me, it’s a respect thing and I am happy to be here”. In reference to the Google Latitude application for the phone he added, “we need to think like parents or people who want to love and protect and not like jealous husbands or wives; we cannot love liming more than life and this phone feature is saving lives”.

Among the highlights of this special evening were: the numerous onstage antics of media personalities such as Jason Williams, Sonny Bling and Super Jigga TC who at one point of the night each took on the role of MC; Beenie Man’s friendly impersonations of Bunji Garlin and Dwayne Bravo; and the competition in which fans offered their best renditions of Fay-Ann’s “Heavy T Bumper” in an effort to win a Blackberry, courtesy of Bmobile.

A generally pleasant and entertaining time was had by all. Those fortunate to be present seemed to particularly enjoy the exclusivity of the event as well as the freestyle nature of the evening’s proceedings. Patrons, music fans and entertainers alike seemed unable to wait until the next edition of the Bmobile Blackberry Swing came around.
