With décor that would make any atheist run to church our Jordanian Princess has done it again with SPOOKED, and yes folks TJJ has arrived. Now I decided to go this event with meh good friend who is de Brand Manager for Red Bull. We both anticipated having lots of fun from the moment we entered de fete but were made to endure a most humbling experience when de Big Little Man decided to “Seal”-ey our fate by refusing de Red Bull rep entry as her name was not on the list. It was a little administrative error and we definitely was not going to let this occurrence dampen our spirits. After a quick text to our people it was straightened out, and we were in!
Misty Ridge Ranch has always been a great location for any event. With ghostly attractions lining the walkway up to the main house, yuh still had to appreciate the beauty of this estate which glowed even more at night. The sequencing of the scary attractions were well thought out with gargoyles coming to life at the entrance, gruesome surgery being perform by some mad doctor next, and some ghastly looking clowns inviting you to play in their tin pan alley for a prize of worms made of gelatin. But as I travelled pass these attractions I became disappointed that there was not a Douens, Lugarhoo or La Diablesse in sight. I figured at least we would have tried to promote our Trini culture as well. Say wha … at least there were lots of free drinks punctuating this path.
Now allyuh know dat Trini like tuh be in ting. With past experience dictating with what is expected to be seen and a TT$5,000 prize on de line, meh Trini people went out of their way to be seen wearing some of the most creative costumes! De ladies certainly did their part and de GAPE was on! There was a ravenous She-Wolf, a dangerously sexy Samari Warrior, and a NASCAR Driver displaying some lovely D’s!!! And who could forget the curvy Tool Girl who could clearly handle heavy machinery. Even recently snubbed Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2010 Universe semifinalist J was still all smiles, as she was seen looking as cute as a button in her sexed up Raggedy Ann costume. But I simply could not get over the Dominatrix who wore leather straps, had breasts exposed with small tassels, and brandished a whip (to me she more looked like Grace Jones’s mother)! What ah thing!!
The great thing about most of my sweet Trini women at this event was that they supported local costume designers by contracting them for the perfect costume. I must big up Richard & Anthony for their great work in outfitting de shorties. This was in sharp contrast to de tired looking Wonderful World Police Woman costumes that were on patrol in de fete!
De fellahs tried their hands at costuming thing too! I found the money I would have saved by switching to GEICO, I saw the funniest thing on YouTube, and there was no need to update my Facebook profile using my mobile as he was seen in de crowd! There was even a disturbing fellah riding a rooster who was continually asking people to pet his c@#k!!!
And de big crews were not overshadowed either as de CEPEP Crew armed with coveralls, brooms and rakes kept in character all night as they cleaned up the dance floor. Special mention must also be given to the West African Tribal Crew who proudly displayed our Caribbean heritage to the mainly Western Peninsula Crew at the Ridge. And why didn’t any crew think of dressing up as the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Team??!! Now that would have shown some national pride!
Speaking of cricket the opening bats men for music were stumped as they did little to get the crowd moving. We had to wait on the middle order for Less Than Zero to show them how to handle a One Night International and make a respectable total. There was no need for the 12th man to come onto the field at this point!
As I continued to sweat to the each musical boundary made, it soon became time to break for tea. No drinks trolley at this event, so I had to make my way to the bar. De bar was easy to get to with one virtually in every direction fully stocked with premium drinks and Red Bull too!!!
In the end Spooked turned out to be great and is an event I’ll recommend to everyone. Now let’s see if Red Eyes Wide Shut could prevent the Follow-On after a great innings by Spooked!
