The dust has now settled and based on the survey conducted by Richie B on The Hot Mix programme on Hot 102 FM on Thursday Nov.26 in the ongoing debate of Gaza vs Gully, Kartel took home the winning prize, defeating Mavado by 28 votes to 22 votes....

This was Richie B's way of 'testing the temperature of current day Dance Hall' and it proved to be extremely exciting..... 'you could hear the passion in the voices of the callers as they shouted Gaza or Gully respectively, but in an atmosphere of cordiality... many of them taking time to even pay respect to the side that they did not support, to call for peace between the camps and an end to the hostilities that the fans have been meeting out to each other, especially within the schools.

The programme was relayed all over New York City via Vibe One Radio and our regular internet listeners from all over the world (www.hot102.fm) had a field day... Calls/votes came in from many of these listeners, especially in Toronto and many parts of the United States.

Over 60 hit songs from both camps were played in the tune for tune showdown and the listeners were treated to edited 'closing arguments' from Kartel's and Mavado's 'lawyers' as they appear on the Twins of Twins CD, Trial and Crosses....Many listeners commented on how exhilarating that was.

It was the intention of the host of the programme to 'put some fun back into the Gaza and Gully debate, using the medium of music and that was achieved...we also wanted to get the endorsement of the supporters of both crews to pledge an end to hostilities and to echo, in their own way, the call for peace, love and respect for each other and that was achieved also.

We feel that if the wider society would embrace those sentiments, we could very well be on our way to a more amicable existence of the Gully and Gaza phenomenon within our music'.

Next time, we'll have Kartel and Mavado themselves making the call for good sense to prevail amongst their fans..... Keep Listening!!!!
