What's in a name? Does it really make you who you are? I've always been a believer in how names shape your personality as you grow and even how you look. I know I couldn't imagine being named anything than what I am. Nothing would fit. Can names even shape your career? If someone was named Jackpot Jones, I could see them growing up to be a football or baseball player, whereas if someone was named Phil...well when I think of Phil, I think guy in ...

When out in the dating world, is height really a deal breaker? I know, growing up all d ladies used to talk about was finding someone tall, dark and handsome...Well, what about short and sweet? I always say good things come in small packages, as I am quite the smallie but then again, I am a girl. There is a double standard when it comes to d men.

I'm a little concerned about the costumes for next year Trini Carnival... there seems to be a growing trend of a piece of silk or long bead ting that goes between young lady reveler's legs. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Granted, these costumes are absolutely beautiful and elegant, I am not disputing that at all... I'm just trying to figure out how comfy that's going to be on the road.

In the news recently has been a story about a woman who was abducted several years ago when she was a teen and held for more than 9 years against her will. We've all heard these types of stories before, nothing strange about that. But upon further inspection of this and many other stories, it has become now clearer than ever that one thing in the American media is for certain.... apparently only Caucasians get...

Today’s topic is pretty random but since Cinco de Mayo is upon us and Swine flu is dampening what should be a lovely time of drunken debauchery, I thought I would talk about good-ol-te-qui-la. The Mexicans need a pick me up. All this talk about Swine flu I know has the Rastas saying, “Yuh see, all yuh, we dun tol yuh all about d ras clot pig and now looooook. Ital is vital” and you know all the Jewish people saying the same. Poor little Mexico is pretty much shut down and spirits are low. This makes Cinco de Mayo even more important to celebrate this ...

Carnival gives you superpowers. It does, it literally makes you superhuman. You chip and dance for a million hours on end, feel no pain and it's great. The other day I was walking down the road and stared at some trucks passing by and was reminded of when I was in London at Nottinghill. I was patiently waiting for a drink from the drink truck when I guess I put my feet (which are gargantuan) right under the wheels of the still not moving vehicle. The big horn blew and the wheels started to move...right over my right foot! Still waiting, with cup in hand held high, I stared at my run over foot in horror and let out a tiny ...

A MAD Blasian (Black Asian) friend of mine recently called me to tell me about her first Carnival experience and how she worked so hard to get into her Caged Canary costume without the use of extra chainage or feathers. She slaved and sweated for six months in the gym to get fit and look fierce. Gyul distanced herself from chocolate, fried things and salty snacks all for the greater good...to wow them down the ...

Perhaps someone can explain this to me...If you are living in a beautiful warm climate, why would you move to a place like Canada...NY...DC to be back handed by frigid weather?! Snow, sleet, freezing rain, no this isn't my morning forecast...well wait, it probably is, I am in a cooler climate these days...damnit...this is a reality for many of us, many of us who dream of the warm sun and the wind tinged with the sea air. This could be just me, someone who has grown up in NY with a case of the grass is always greener, but noooo...noooo! I just don't ...

Carnival Tabanca has long come into the hearts of many revelers who were on the road for 2KWhine. For some, solace comes in pictures posted on FB and for others a quick look at their tan lines from their costumes suffice. For me....well I'm just MAD. To me, Carnival this season lacked something...a certain vibe, a feeling, something just wasn't there. Was the reason for the off vibe this season the economy all around the world?
