Last year we started our 'TJJ Guru Guide' for the various Carnivals.  The must do's for each Carnival in  TJJ fashion, but most of these are released after the Carnival.  On the flipside, if you were to narrow down every single event experience you’ve encountered throughout your lifetime in Barbados or Canada, what would make your top ten list (or top five) of biggest must do's for the BARBADOS CROP OVER or TORONTO CARIBANA and why?

Here is my Top 3 for BARBADOS
1. Booze Cruise
2. Lara All Inclusive
3. In a Mas band, on the road for Crop Over (Kadooment Day)

new comer for 2009, worth a try
The Bathsheba Experience 'The Ultimate All Inclusive Event'

Here are some reviews/photos from past Crop Over seasons to bear testament...

When ordering a cocktail, a glass of wine or beer, what price point do you consider to be cheap, moderate and expensive?

We hearing complaints about top shelf drink vs Premium drinks and what we expect to pay for an all inclusive that makes it good value.  eg I think DV8 priced at $55 was good value but have heard others points of view.

Does your perception change depending on where you’re located (e.g. $5 for a pint of beer in NYC might be considered a steal, but in other areas it could be viewed as outrageous)? Tell us what you think.

Are we just plain old abusing the word "Premium" in our all-inclusive parties?
Let us remember our friend Shel Shok. I want you to picture this: Thursday October 12, 1995. This would be an ordinary night for anyone but not for U.W.I.  Crew and certainly not for Ismel the 'Demolition Man', myself, Shel Shok with Marvin and Signal to Noise.

In the 90's we would look forward to playing music for the people and "ramming out the dances".  What we did not know is that together we were making a new part of history, a new culture of Trinidad and Tobago.  "Breaking new tracks" is what Shel Shok chuckled to us all.  "I broke the most new tracks in Coconuts," he would exclaim. And you know, he was right!  He always was pushing the boundaries. Kissdadee Caravan to the day he passed.

We as a culture have suffered the loss of another pioneer. Let us remember those many nights that we pushed each other and moved our culture forward in the attached podcast.

Well today we posted the results for 2009 Trinidad and Tobago International Soca Monarch Results and also the Large Band Category for Panorama 2009.

Congrats to Silver Stars Steel Orchestra and Fay-Ann Lyons.  Anyone want to express love to these performers and has additional thoughts on the performances?

I wanted to give you guys a new spin on the way we typically cover Carnival for 2k9 ... I hope you enjoy my adventures. And yes, feel free to laugh at meh!

1 MAN + 1 CAMERA .... IN DE MIDDLE OF PLENTY BACHANNAL!

Every year during the Holiday season, I find that there's more people interested in the upcoming TnT Carnival season and everything to do with it ... you know ... which mas band they and their friends playing with, which fetes to buy tickets for, what dates to travel (for those that moving late), and of course ... what's the latest and hottest Soca releases?

In all fairness, yes .... Carnival is a big and serious ting! BUT, we should not let it take away or distract us from enjoying and celebrating the Christmas Holiday season at hand! And for us West Indians (especially Trini's), that means lots of close family & friends, ham & pastelles, punch-a-creme, sorrel, ginger beer (the list goes on and on) and PARANG!!

Parang music is an integral part of our our culture and really adds to that holiday spirit ... making Christmas time at home better than being anywhere else in the WORLD!!  That said, let's not forget to listen to and enjoy all the great PARANG MUSIC by our local artists (be sure to support and buy the original CDs) ... NEW & OLD!

ENJOY PARANG MUSIC ON TJJ TODAY - http://www.trinijunglejuice.com/parang.html

And don't be the GRINCH THAT STOLE PARANG either .... please SHARE music with ALL your FAMILY & FRIENDS!

- Chooks

ps. And yes, after we PARANG, we will indeed SOCA! ;-)

I guess the question is really simple. Did Miami Carnival & Broward Carnival 2008 live up to the expectations?  Okay, here are the standard things we want to know:

What was de Best Fete for Miami/Broward Carnival?

What was de Worst Fete for Miami/Broward Carnival?

What Chune Mash Up Miami/Broward Carnival?

What Parties had more man than woman, that resulted in "ah whole bag o man" as my Jamaican friends would say or "Snake Fight" ... (worst yet, while Soca playing)?

What parties had the most girls? You know, the generous one who put a smile on your face when she push back...

We want to know.....

After de Juice done... Send back meh tuppa-ware!

What do you think? Which bessss fete we missed? Tell us what's your favourite party for 2008?

Like any other Carnival, you just have to be there in person to really enjoy the season's music. No matter how many times a DJ plays a track on the radio or in a fete outside of the country for all those that didn't make it (to the Carnival), the feeling will just never be the same when compared to those folks that did get to wuk up, jump up, and wine up to the music on the road or in any fete for the season.  That said, here are some of my favourite 2008 Crop Over tunes (and yes, ah know ... we missing some ... to be added later).
