Trinidad and Tobago upset Chennai Super Kings

Trinidad and Tobago moved into the Champions League Twenty20 last four with a shock eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.

David Williams' team went into the game level with Nashua Titans in second in Group B behind the previously unbeaten leaders Chennai.

The Caribbean side were set a target of 119 to win and needed to achieve the score in 17.4 overs to win their pool.

Jehue Gordon win gold at World Championships 400m Hurdles finals

Jehue Gordon has won gold in the men's 400 m hurdles at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia. Gordon (47.69) upset race favourite Michael Tinsley of the US (47.70) to take first place in the event in an extremely close finish. Third was Emir Bekric (48.05) of Serbia who beat Omar Cisneros of Cuba (48.12) into fourth. Gordon became the country's second athlete to earn gold at the World Championship.

Vice President Biden Visits Trinidad and Tobago

After stopping in Colombia on his three-country trip to reinforce partnerships in the Americas, Vice President Biden traveled to Trinidad and Tobago, where he met with President Carmona and Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and participated in a meeting and working lunch with a number of other Caribbean leaders.

In that series of meetings, leaders discussed regional efforts to promote economic growth, citizen security and energy, among other issues.

“I'm here because President Obama wanted me to have an opportunity to dialogue with all of you and because our country is deeply invested and wants to become more deeply invested in a partnership with all the nations of the Caribbean,” the Vice President explained.

Machel Fined, No Prison Term

SOCA superstar Machel Montano will serve no prison time. Montano was this afternoon ordered to pay fines and compensation totaling $27,200, for beating four persons and using obscene language. Entertainer Kernal Roberts was also ordered to pay a fine and compensation for assaulting two persons. The ruling was delivered by Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor in the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court.

Trinidad and Tobago wins gold at London 2012 Olympics

Trinidad and Tobago won its second Olympic gold medal in its history minutes ago at London 2012 in the Men's Javellin Throw at Olympic Stadium. Keshorn Walcott now joins the ranks of Hasely Crawford, after whom is named the national and largest stadium in Port of Spain. The 19-year-old Toco thrower won the men’s javelin title with a huge 84.58 metres throw.

The 10th Annual International Soca Awards in Hollywood, CA has been postponed

New York, NY (Tuesday June 26, 2012) – The SAO Soca Awards Ltd. regrettably announces that the 10th Annual International Soca Awards which was scheduled to be held in Hollywood, CA on Friday June 29th, 2012 at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City has been postponed.

The new date will be announced in an upcoming press release and a press conference is scheduled for Thursday July 5th, 2012 at a venue to be announced giving reasons for the postponement and the new way forward.

Four More Nations For London 2012 After 49er, Laser And Star Worlds

Bermuda, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago and Tunisia have become the latest nations to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition after the 49er, Laser and Star Worlds.

With four qualification regattas remaining, 54 countries have now guaranteed their spot in the boat park at Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain from 29 July to 12 August.

Five spots were up for grabs at the 49er World Championships in Zadar, Croatia and all were taken when the fleet split into Gold, Silver and Bronze with Bermuda, Canada, Greece, Italy and Japan making the cut.

... Trinidad and Tobago's Andrew Lewis will put his country on the sailing map at London 2012 after he put his heartache from missing Beijing 2008 qualification behind him. Lewis said, "Words can't express the joy I feel right now. It's been a long road, and at times very difficult. I was heartbroken in 2008 having missed qualifying for Beijing. I made up my mind to bounce back and work twice as hard.

"I've dreamed of representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympics since I was 14, and I am blessed to have attained it through the help of my team, sponsors, family, friends and well-wishers. This is an honour to make my country proud."
