Day - that special day when we all go that extra mile for moms to show her how
much she's loved and appreciated. With that in mind, what better way is there
than to spend the day ketchin' ah few jokes with moms and the family for the Trinidad
vs. Jamaica Comedy Clash - Mother's Day Edition! Held at the Panasonic Theatre,
comedians Jean Paul (Team Trinidad Captain) and Jay Martin (Team Jamaica
Captain) presented and hosted this hilarious event. Representing for Team
Trinidad were comedians Tommy Joseph and Louis Antoine, and comedians
Bello & Blakka and Ity & Fancy Cat represented Team Jamaica.
On the one's and two's playing the sweet soca music for team Trinidad were members
of the KOS family - Dr. Jay, Soca Sweetness and marXman
and holding down the reggae set were DJ's Spex and Presto.
The show commenced just
after 2pm, with Jay Martin doing de 'boggle' on stage and Jean Paul
winin' down de aisles with his sexy Caribbean ladies dressed in Carnival attire.
Once the introductions were over, no time was wasted. Toronto's premiere steel
pannist Earl La Pierre Jr. aka ESP (Extraordinary Steel Pannist),
blessed the building as he played the sweet sounds of the steel pan. As he gracefully
played note by note, he had the crowd singing along with smiles of comfort. It
was definitely the beginning to a great show! After being mesmerized by the sound
of the steel pan, comedian Louis Antoine came on stage performing for the
first time in Toronto. Joke after joke, he had the crowd in his hands chucklin'
away but the show didn't stop there. Next up was Bello & Blakka, the
duo that kept the show rolling. Then Tommy Joseph blessed the stage, followed
by Ity & Fancy Cat, who had had the crowd falling out of their seats.
From the balcony to lower level, the laughter was heard throughout the whole building.
You could even see tears filling up in the eyes of those who could no longer control
their laughter. Moms, dads, uncles and aunties were all crackin' up to the humorous
acts on stage but were much anticipating the clash between Team Trinidad and Team
Jamaica. Both teams came strong, as they both played hype sets and their performances
were absolutely fab! The TJJ crew decided that in all fairness we'd call it a
tie as both teams represented to de fullest. ONE LOVE - ONE UNITY!
The show ended on a
very positive note around 5pm, and those who couldn't obtain tickets for the 2pm
sold-out show, had the opportunity to purchase tickets for the 6pm show. If you
missed both shows then hard luck because you missed a good dose of laughter!!
And you know what they always say, "Laughter is the best medicine!!"
The audience
definitely had a great time as they exited the building gigglin' and conversing
about de bess jokes for the day. We are all looking forward to another dose of
laughter ... SOON! Now we must say congrats to the lady who won a ticket to Trinidad
(courtesy of Emerald Vacations) - that was definitely ah bess present for Mothers
Day wouldn't you say? Anyhoo
... enjoy this last laugh fuh de road. ~
