UBERSOCA CRUISE, THE GREATEST CARNIVAL ON WATER!

How to describe Ubersoca Cruise 2019 in one word? Rukshun! Having survived both sailings of this year’s USC as well as every sailing before, I was given the honor to do the annual write-up. I’d describe both sailings as though they were one because aside from the difference in faces, both shared the same beautiful energy and vibe and I honestly can’t (publicly) pick a favorite.

After touching down in Orlando, I was greeted by the bubbly staff, taken to the hotel and just took a quick freshen up and out to the beautiful Mango's Tropical Cafe for the Naughty Disney Pre-Party. It’s here the momentum starts to build, seeing all your favorite artists and DJs partying by your side. It wasn’t a late pump because we can’t afford to miss the bus to Port Canaveral early in the morning. After a smooth boarding process and the usual emergency drill (even that is a lime and ole talk), it’s time for the Sail Away Party. Littering the pool deck with women, this is the party to start the hottie scouting. I wish I could say it’s where the energy builds, but it seems like everyone comes ready to party because there is no slow period. Sadly, as soon as the blood starts rushing, it’s time to wrap that up and get ready for the All White Toga Party!! It was like being surrounded by Greek goddesses (and yeah, a few Thor built fellas too) while getting to party to the first lineup of performers, including the legendary Superblue who made his USC debut this year. Party hard into the night, and if you still haven’t had your Soca fix yet, there’s the after parties (yes, more than one – D’Avenue, Studio B, Star Lounge) going until after the sun rises. Remember folks, USC is a marathon not a sprint. There are tons of activities on board, so pace yourself.

After I catch myself and had lunch, it’s time for the Hawaii 5.0 Pool Party. Babes and bikinis, flowers and powers. Yup, this is the party that set the Splinters video by Shal Marshall a couple years ago, so I need not say anymore. Following the pool party was the annual Theater Turn Up. While you may be sitting, you’re still gonna get a tough abdominal workout laughing non-stop at the comedic performances of White Yardie and Trixx, hosted by T&T’s Keevo. As they say, laughter is the best medicine (hopefully even for hangovers). Whip out those guns, bullets, camo and berets, its revolution time! Find yuh friend friend, because it’s Nailahhhhh! The Revolt Party aka Battle Royale also featured a HUGE all star cast including Marzville, Teddyson John, Nailah Blackman, Lyrikal, Allison Hinds, Farmer Nappy and Kerwin Du Bois. Again, if even that’s not enough for you to get your fix, there’s the small island party to carry you long into the morning (I couldn’t make, too much free rum).

Nine o’clock in the morning and is gunman in yuh hole! Just kidding, it’s time to grab breakfast and set off the ship to the pristine blue waters washing ashore the Grand Turk island of Turks and Caicos for Uber J'Ouvert. Paint! Powder! Water! Tree branches? An inflatable boat? Oh no, it’s Mr. Killa telling this wild and unruly crowd to Pick Up Something and Run Wid It! Is it rain? Nope, the Water Lord Iwer George just touched the stage. Why all those girls running to the front? Ohhhhh, Kes The Band is on. Try not to get carried away by y’all favorite redman, and Bunny bounce back on the ship before you get left behind! Scrub out that paint and powder, is more party in yuh tail. Whip out those costumes and get ready to become the main attraction in the Midnight Mas. This is where we tell the lightweights from the real party veterans. With your favorite DJs and all these beautiful costumes being paraded, it was only at the end of the night I realized there weren’t any live performances. I recommend having just one surprise act to run out and make everyone jump out of themselves for Midnight Mas.

Okay, so we’re on the last day... Day 4, are you keeping up? You can see everyone is “running on fumes" as we say in Trini. It’s the last lap, starting with the Wild African Safari Pool Party. Yes guys, one last chance to gape at all these beautiful women glistening in the sunshine and splashing around in the swimming pools and hot tubs. Then comes the Bacchanal Ball, with an “Arabian Nights” theme this year, an opportunity to dine with all the stars in a 3 floor grand dining room, all while being serenaded by the sweet sounds of T&T pianist Johanna Chuckaree, Sons of Steel on the steel pan and the very talented violist Mapy. Last, but not least, comes Uber Finale, the grand party to mash up everything like we have insurance. With more legendary performances including Bunji Garlin, Preedy, King Bubba, Skinny Fabulous and Ricardo Drue, it gives you that full and final dose of Soca to leave you burnt out and mentally prepared to deal with life until the next carnival.

To all my carnival junkies out there, Trini Jungle Juice says that Ubersoca Cruise is a MUST attend. Kudos to the hardworking team behind the whole thing... Nathaniel, Daniel, Jodi, to the hardest working bartenders, the hypemen, all the amazing talent, managers, and the amazing staff of the Royal Caribbean cruise liner. It was nice, did it more than twice, and I definitely plan to do it again!! See you guys on board Ubersoca Cruise 2020!
