Tonight is Generation X 2K6 Band Launch, where folks can preview their costume offerings for Miami Carnival 2006. TJJ is auditioning for a new Street Team in Miami so bear with us as we get the rookies up to speed on event coverage ... we are working on bringing you more exclusive coverage of all the hot parties on the South Florida scene!

Upon arriving at Bayside Hut, minutes to 1am on a mildly humid summer night, the party did not have as energetic of a vibe as one would expect for a Gen X event. The atmosphere was laid back with a fair amount of people standing around behaving social while waiting for the excitement of the night to start. Moving around to other areas of the party to scope out the aura, it was pretty much the same, aside from a few people enjoying themselves on the dance floor. About half an hour later, the crowd began to thicken as more people showed up (folks just coming out later and later these days), and wining and waving to the beat of the latest Soca tunes spun by the usual suspects like Dorenzo was a nice sight to see. This is want we are accustomed too... the party was starting to come to life. With a moderate vibe flowing, people who came to party and wanted to enjoy themselves did so, either dancing away under the hut or chilling out by the bar.

The climax of the event occurred when the presentation of carnival costumes showcasing the band's 2006 Carnival theme “Wonders of the World” began. Of course, the colorful costumes were modeled by some sexy Gen X girls, and were well received by the crowd. While some of the TJJ crew believe Generation X really steps up the Carnival game with their quality costumes and can't wait to see the ladies of Florida (New York, Toronto, DC and elsewhere) on the road in full costumes, others in the crew were not so impressed, finding the costumes to have similar styles, not offering much variety with exception for the adornments.

Following the highlight of the evening, the party returned to the initial vibe it had upon arriving, except with a bit more zest. Not too long after, the night had come to an end for us. We are definitely looking forward to taking ah jump up with Gen X on the road. For more information, visit them at www.generationxmiami.net.
