Elie® hosted "For the Love of Fashion II" at Queens
Hall on Friday 14th September. Theme'd "the romance ... 2008 collection",
the show was scheduled to promptly kick off at 9 PM. Unfortunately, after the
misfortune of getting short notice, I arrived to Queen's Hall late! I would have
really liked to see the Evening Wear section which to me normally showcases most
of the designer's intellectual blend with creativity. Next
up was the Business Wear, which to me had a rich palette of colors and different
assorted designs from a haute couture feel. The tan suits however weren't quite
as flattering, as I saw no real difference between them and any regular suits
that I see folks wearing in the streets today. Moving
on with the show, they then had a contemporary music interlude with violins and
bass to Muvado and Marshal. It was a different and modern blending of music, which
was great. Then it was unto the next section in the night's line up, the Hip Hop/Trendy
section - which turned out to be my least favorite. Personally, it seemed like
pretty much casual wear that wasn't too much out of the ordinary. A lot of it
looked like the kind of stuff you could see and get in town ... only real difference,
the designer's initials on it. There
is always salvation from the rubble of debris, the Bathing Suit section - one
of my favorites. Some of the designs were very flashy and haute couture but all
user friendly to go to the beach. Pool lounging is what I figured it would be
ideal for! One particular bathing suit sure commanded a round of applause. Folks
really showed some love for that blue one piece ... very cute! After
the swimsuit section, that pretty much summed it up for the nights feature.
In wrapped things up, the audience were given a brief encore presentation of the
best pieces from all sections, which formally closed things off. I was very disappointed
to have missed the first half of the show, as perhaps that's where Ecliff Elie®
would have scored more points in my book and earned my money.
