Date: Monday 23rd February 2009 Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad Promotions: Cocoa Devils Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Cocoa with a splash of Yellow “Tanty say doh go down dey, is too much bacchanal, dey go take meh life away!” (Benjai & Scarface - "Tanty Say") Well, we not listening to tanty cause we playin’ J’ouvert with Cocoa Devils again this year! The alarm clock in my head went off at 3am sharp. Now normally I would be in deep REM sleep at this hour, but it's jouvert and the jumbie in me woke my backside up, put me in some old clothes and rushed me out of the house. Next thing you know, vehicle done park, and ah sleep walking to catch Cocoa Devils in Fed Park. So we on route, and as soon as we reach the Savannah (by Kapok hotel side), we collide with Yellow Devilz. We teef a lil' wine session with our Yellow Devilz frens, but fell quickly back in line with Cocoa Devils. And before we could say, "Boo" ... cocoa was all over we body!! Is like they were waiting for us behind some bushes to ambush us, cos dem boys were fast.
Well like dey feel cocoa wasn't enough cos some fellas with buckets of paint came and used our bodies as a canvas ... hehe. And then it was more paint and mud and oil dey putting on us too .... wheeeeeeey, look bacchanal now start! Is bacchanal on de street, on top de passing cars, on people’s fence, on lamp posts. The DJs were playing all our favorite jouvert songs and we were chipping and wining and drinking all over the streets of Port-of-Spain. Unfortunately they
had to stop the music at some point (and just as the bacchanal was escalating
to another level too) because there were too many non-jouvert revellers
trying to storm the band (certain routes must be avoided to keep the stragglers
out). So we caught up on some ole talk while the security got their act
together. But as soon as the music came back on, it was pure wildness...
we think we even see tanty throwing waist all over St James too!! We always have a great time playing jouvert with Cocoa Devils.... it's like one big happy family. Nice vibes everytime! “Carnival round de corner ... we done deh!” Suffering from a serious
