| DC CARNIVAL 2009 COVERAGE
TJJ's Party Guru's Guide to DC Carnival Very short, very easy carnival. What is an easy carnival you ask, at least you wish to question my definition. Well I've been doing this carnival thing in the District for a while now. So easy; easy means that there are staple events, so your decision making is almost completely done for you. So I guess it's easy for me to provide good advice here. If you don't know anyone in DC, just show up ready to get your fill of Soca. Prerequisites:
The Break Down Thursday: TRIBE has stolen another Carnival Thursday night from another World carnival. When in Miami go to TRIBE Ignite, and in DC do the same (Ignite DC). Although they don't compare yet, it's getting there. Friday:
2 Choices. One of my number 1 rated parties world wide is Gresham Entertainment's
"Taboo". Brags and delivers an upscale all inclusive event. Great
music, plenty food, extensive bar including Johnnie Walker Black ... and of course
plenty bess dressed smallies. Expect to see the sun come up. Saturday: Catch the Parade on Georgia Avenue around 12pm. Put on your J'ouvert uniform because the best carnival band is D Mud Band! Spend some money and register, it will be well worth it to be properly muddy on de road. Later it's concert night. For the past few years, there have been at least two big shows ... Machel Montano holding down one corner, and in the other corner, the majority of the big Soca bands/artists for the current year (Soca In Motion - 2009). The Blu Carnival folks have also introduced a party featuring only All-Star DJs from all around the world for those not wanting to hear any live bands on the Saturday night. Sunday:
Shine DC Breakfast Party is where
all de bumsie wining whole morning long. Indigo
All Inclusive has received "de bess fete for de weekend" title
by several TJJ'ers! And before the clock strikes midnight, Go Home! Dr. Ram Dass
