The fifth annual Song Competition, broadcasted live by Radio Cayman, was one of two free events held over the Carnival weekend that showcased the various cultural aspects Batabano has to offer.

The competition saw entries from young and talented Caymanian's that varied from calypso, to rock, to hip hop genres. The surprised and overjoyed Kenroy Williams took 1st place with a self-written calypso piece wining $1,000 and a recording contract to produce his song at Hopscotch Studios. Corey Allenge placed 2nd, and hip hop duo Dub Six, representing West Bay, rounded out the 3rd spot.

The President of the Music Association, Jean Eric Smith, said that that next year all the songs for the Batabano Song Competition has to be in the style of calypso/soca because of the specific appeal of Batabano. And we agree 100%!

Congrats to all contestants... everyone is a winner in our books!
