It's the first Monday in August: Kadooment Day! But what does Kadooment actually stand for? In general, the definition would be: a big occasion full of fun & joy... like carnival. In Bajan terms it describes a "big commotion".

Well it definitely is the official finale of the 2010 Crop Over Season and the time when the Bajan costume bands are coming out to play - Baje Int'l, Power x 4, Blue Box Cart (Harbour Lights), RebelVibes and Jump Promotion to name a few of the more popular mas bands. A new, extended route was introduced this year which started at the Super Centre at Warrens via Greenhill and Black Road to Spring Garden. On the plus side, this meant more time on the road and no assembling in the National Stadium for judging as mas bands flowed smoothly past the judging point (ushered by marshalls), now on the road outside the stadium. On the negative side, mas bands didn't take the opportunity to enjoy the longer route as music and drink drinks speed down the route as masqueraders litterly chipped, wined, wukked up and jumped at a super speedy pace.

With everyone expecting rain today, including Lil Rick who did a "Go Dung Rain Mix", the weather actually turned out to be quite fabulous and the vibe was great. Folks were dancing on walls, under water hoses and wining on lamp posts.

Baje Int'l band members in sections such as 'Rebirth', 'Free to Fly', 'Falling Stars' etc. were given a special treat on the road in addition to the drinks that were flowing ... fruity icicles were handed out and cooled the revellers off, but not for long. Because as soon as the trucks were blasting Lil Rick's "Go Dung" everyone went to their physical limits (and most were paying for it the next day with sore thighs and knees). Mr. Dale's "Drop It" was another favorite, and on Tuesday everyone's foot was on fire thanks to Blood's track ("Foot On Fire") who won Tune-O-De-Crop (Road March) 2k10.

In the early afternoon it was time for lunch, and at the same time it meant the end of Kadooment Day 2010. Word has it that next year it will be a 2 day jump (yeeaaaaah... it's about time Barbados), which will result in even more wukking up ... which means more swollen feet and knees and burning thighs... but most likely wayyy more fun too! TJJ is looking forward to it.
