Popular radio personality, Adrian "Third Bass" Hackshaw has officially joined the 94.1 FM "Boom Champions" family. Long established as an artiste, songwriter, DJ and host, "Third Bass" begins his latest assignment next Monday (March 15) as a co-host on the morning drive show dubbed "The Taxi Stand". From Monday to Thursday between the hours of 6 and 9 am, Hackshaw will lead “the taxi-stand team”, which includes: AV St Hill, Kevin Links and Greg Mac.

"Even though I'll be the captain of the ship," said Hackshaw, "it's a team effort and everyone has their own part to play. This show is designed to make you laugh, cry, get angry and definitely stimulate your brain: whatever you need to get you ready for your day!"

No stranger to the local entertainment scene, Hackshaw began his career in 1992 at the age of 18, when he became one of the youngest DJs on the air at the first urban radio station in the nation, 98.9 YES FM.

"I had no formal training at the time because there were no broadcasting schools like there are now," he recalled, "but I grew up listening to the radio and all the great announcers of the late 80's and early 90's and that stint at 98.9 was my first break and I saw it as the opportunity of a lifetime, so I had to nail it."

Nail it, he did: after just a couple months working the graveyard shift (after midnight), "Third Bass" was chosen to fill daytime and afternoon drive slots. He observed and took valuable notes from co-workers like Ian "The Goose" Eligon and Anthony "Chinese Laundry" Chow Lin On, who was responsible for getting him the job there in the first place.

After leaving 98.9, Hackshaw then worked at 96.1 WEFM for four years. There he further developed his craft and soon became one of the most popular radio personalities in the nation, hosting the original and back then top-rated "Dancehall Good To We" program on Saturday evenings.

Determined to take his career to higher heights, Hackshaw moved to New York City in 2000. There, he found favor as a DJ on the Caribbean party scene, while promoting artistes for Def Jam Records and also played on HOT 97 FM: one of the top urban stations in the USA.

"Living abroad was a great experience," he related, "some say I was crazy to leave Trinidad while at the top of my game, but I was bored and just needed a different experience. Being outside showed me just how much talent we have here in Trinidad and I learnt how to hustle and make the most out of my own skills, time and energy."

Hackshaw returned to Trinidad in 2006 and has since re-ignited the fire at HOTT 93.5 FM. Although their format was quite different from the urban formats with which he was most familiar, Hackshaw still made a lasting impression and secured a devoted listenership.

Boom Champions’ Director, O’Brian Haynes is a longtime friend and former co-worker at 98.9 with Hackshaw. He says he did not even have to think twice about adding him to their on-air cast.

“We are all about producing a quality product,” said Haynes, “and Third Bass has been top quality from his inception to now. I consider him to be a pioneer like myself and it’s interesting that he and I started in this business on the same day at the same station. Of course, we’ve both evolved and gotten better and better at what we do, but where I decided to move into a management position, he opted to stay on the ground and now he’s an expert on the air and one of the few key people who understand the streets and can address their wants and needs directly. He’s a welcome addition to the Boom Champions family and I think our listeners will agree as they get to know him all over again.”

Haynes added that along with Hackshaw’s introduction next week, the station will also launch a new Smartphone application, which will allow mobile users to stream the popular frequency live on their cellular phones.

“We’ve been testing it for some time and working out all the bugs, but we’re ready to launch it now and take the Boom to the next level. We have an outstanding and loyal fan-base, which includes 18,000 strong on our face book page, over 50,000 mobile supporters via text messaging and an average of 30,000 hits on our website daily. This mobile application is yet another pioneering step by the Boom and should satisfy the growing needs of our listenership as we seek to serve them in a rapidly-advancing technologically-driven landscape. Look out for Boom TV coming soon!”
