POS, Trinidad (Sonique Solutions) – Amidst the plethora of theme parties, fetes, Carnival band launches and other profit driven July/August period events, one local entity recently brought forward an entertainment concept geared towards benefitting a worthy cause.

Non-Governmental Organization, Live and Be Conscious Incorporated hosted the event entitled, “Donation Drive for Haiti- The Exclusive Event” at popular Port-Of-Spain nightspot Club Zen last Sunday. The Sunday evening soiree was dedicated to the raising of funds in a relief effort to assist the nation of Haiti which was devastated by a severe earthquake earlier this year.

Founder of Live and Be Conscious Inc. and promoter of last Sunday’s event Jude Chan and his team made a valiant attempt in executing the donation drive party. Chan, who has visited Haiti since the major natural disaster, had the opportunity to see and document the effects of the catastrophic 7.0 earthquake as well as to interact with several of the affected nationals.

Although he applauds the great works of the major organizations who have come to Haiti’s aid, he knows from first hand experience that there are far too many people that are crying out for a helping hand, who are not being reached nearly fast enough. He maintains that L&BC Inc. holds firm to its agenda to assist all relief efforts presently being implemented for Haiti through this and similar future donation drives.

Attending this exclusive fundraiser event were prominent entertainment personalities such as actress/TV presenter Natacha Jones, Gospel singer Russel Leonce and Soca Star Kees Dieffenthaller of Kes The Band. Music for the night was provided by the XTC sound system and DJ's - Marcus and Dominic.

One particularly touching moment of the evening was the playing of a video montage of interviews featuring the afflicted and destitute Haitians imploring the people of T&T to help them in anyway possible.
The Donation drive for Haiti will be the first of many put on by L&BC Inc. and judging by the positive feedback that the organization has been receiving, its evident that there are still many conscious Trinbagonians ready to show support for their Caribbean brothers and sisters in need.

ABOUT LIVE AND BE CONSCIOUS INC

Live and Be Conscious Inc.(L&BC Inc.) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization. It was founded by Mr. Jude Chan, a Trinidadian national and former graduate studies student of Harvard University subsequent to his visit and work in Haiti after the devastating earthquake hit Port-au-Prince in January 2010.

The mission of L&BC Inc. is to cut through the red tape that slows down larger organizations and distribute aid and relief where it is needed most.
With the rainy season already upon us, L&BC Inc. is in a race against time to return to Haiti in August/September of this year, to assist persons where the threat of flooding and spread of disease are of great concern.

This recent event held in Trinidad and Tobago is the first of several donation drives, which will also take place in parts of the US, namely Miami, New York and Boston. Proceeds from these donation drives will go directly toward:

  • Re-location of persons affected by flooding
  • Heavy duty tarpaulins/tents to replace the makeshift shelters being used
  • Solar powered water filtration systems to provide clean drinking water for 1000 people
    per day

Internationally Mr. Chan has worked with a number of high profile individuals including the incumbent President of Haiti, René Préval, film director Spike Lee, US actor Sean Penn and the J/P Haitian Relief Organization Camp. Locally, L&BC Inc has garnered support from The TSL Group, CL Communications, Club Zen, Movie Towne, Doux Doux Darling Productions, Pilar and a host of individuals and entities from within the music, media and fashion arenas.

L&BC Inc. sincerely hopes to inspire all socially conscious members of society to be a part of this movement as well.
